Really easy going and laid back. Very willing to help you if need it. Didnt like class at first but I would take him again now that I know how he teaches. Lectures can be boring. But disscussions are really interesting. Offers A LOT of extra credit. Once you learn how he teaches the class is actually pretty good.

There were 140 people between 2 classes: grading that many papers alone takes time. He wrote the syllabus: he can change it as he sees fit for the class's pace. His style is "unprofessional": aka, casual, which makes the class much more fun, interesting and worth attending as opposed to listening to a boring drone. Good professor, great class.

He is the reason why I switched my major to Soc. He is unlike any teacher I have ever had. He is adorable and very smart! Attendance is not mandatory which I love! I missed a lot of class and still pulled a B. Take his class!

He takes forever to return work. Every prompt & email he writes has had gramatical errors. He doesn't respond to emails. He can't keep class discussions on topic. If you enjoy listening to stupid people say stupid things for then this is the class for you. He teachers straight from the book and gets further behind the syllabus every class.

Prof. Spiller's class was what made me decide to become a Soc major. He's very modern engaging the class in discussion of current topics. I loved him, and I've had him 3 times since.

You can definitely get away with not going to class and still pull at least a B. He's a very intelligent prof. but he can be sometimes confusing. Read the material, take an interest and the class is really easy.

Marwin's discussions are interesting and everything, but his professional attitude is questionable. He's late a lot, speaks very unprofessionally, and sometimes I feel like his grading is very unfair. Sometimes disorganized and forgets when stuff is due, and sometimes a little too flexible. I think he'll get better once he's more experienced

His lessons tend to jump around and are hard to follow. It's difficult to take notes this way.

to all the girls that are "oh my god he is so hot" get a life. This is by far one of the worst teachers i have ever had. No help, no notes, just talk at you fast and jumping around. Not to mention he LOST 3 of my classmates and my own report. Then just said "oh, just reprint it out" Very bad

i was really tired of all the stupid girls in class who drool over marwin but never contribute to discussion. the fact is the guy is intelligent, but needs to ask more poignant and direct questions. he is awesome 1 on 1, but in class is kind of weak. great guy and will be a great professor soon.

He's hot but other then that hes not! He mumbles a great deal and speed reads through his notes. Discussions were interesting but his exams never had to do with anything. He jumps around a lot. He knows his info on African AMericans but other then that, the has his notes. Don't have to read the books to get an A. Boring class...don't take it!

Probably one of the worst classes I've had. Very incohesive. The prof doesn't follow through with his word, is rarely on time, and his lectures are as clear as a brick. Class is barely worth going to as I think stabbing one's eyes out with a rusty fork would be more enjoyable.

Marwin is a great guy with a brilliant mind and a vast concept of cultural... well, everything, but he sort of lacks the speech skills to back it all up. He's often rather timid, which is quite cute, but not very helpful academically. He's relatively easy to talk to, and you can get a lot out of him one on one.

really flexible on due dates and assignments, lots of class discussion, test material had more to do with classes than reading so if you attend class and don't read books this guy is great.....really nice, knowledgable, and presents viewpoints/subject matter that's not commonplace.....definitely worthwhile
