Super enthusiastic about the course material. Very informative and knowledgable, and pretty funny too. Cares about his students, making sure they get good feedback on papers that will actually be beneficial. Not too difficult with the marking, either. Loved this course!

Lecture consisted of him going off on tangents on different things. He didn't manage to keep us engaged during his long 3 hour lecture unfortunately, I felt as if I was capable of dissecting poems at the same level he could. Another issue regarding this course was the numerous books we had to purchase, wasn't easy for the students.

I thought G.E. Clarke was fantastic. Not only is he brilliant but he is extremely passionate about what he teaches. Although he went off on tangents he still managed to keep me engaged for the entire three hours. Good prof!

Had him a few years ago. This was the worst class I've ever taken. Terrible. Waste of time. He is so self absorbed and lazy. The worst part was the manditory video viewings- these were often slasher films, some with themes of rape. In all, his class was a traumatizing and offensive academic experience

Probably the worst prof I've ever had. It's unfortunate since he's such a great poet but the man clearly has something against the school system or his students. A three hour class consists of TANGENTS, as said before, which are funny and sometimes offensive, and about 15 minutes of simplistic content. He grades almost solely on form (grammar, etc)

This was by far my favourite class since I've been at UofT. The prof's a busy man, he's got a lot going on professionally and personally, but I think he was really good at getting the class engaged. I took the course when it was a halft term, but full credit. A lot of reading, but it was fiction, so it was good.

He prevents his results from being published in the Anti-Calendar, so here goes: this was the worst class I have ever taken at U of T. Lectures rarely dealt with the readings, and instead included topics such as drugs, alcohol, the prof's salary, sexual abuse, and politics. We were also required to watch several extremely violent films.

Terrible prof. Except for useless tangents read his prepared lecture verbatim. The reading list felt more like a political statement than a comprehensive list of Canadian plays. Politics superseded meaningful textual analysis - which is fine for personal discussion, but seems inappropriate for the classroom.

TANGENTS (ex: how bad Stephen Harper is, how there is discrimination in Cdn idol etc.)-during the majority of a 3hr lecture! If you like what he says then go out for coffee with the guy! His lit analysis (when he does it) is simplistic esp for poetry. But he does teach you about the darkerside of Cdn hist-can make an interesting lit analysis.

Are you fond of name-dropping timeservers who spend the majority of a 3 hour class telling you about: a)expensive **** beverages, b)the literary celebrities with whom they have downed the aforementioned alcohol, c)their own publications, d)the benefits of tenure (high pay, fewer responsibilities)?? If so, then Clarke's your man.

Clarke is a lovely and charming person, but as a professor I'd have to give him a failing grade. He wastes too much class time on pointless (if mildly amusing) digressions, and his decision to put his own book on the list of required readings creates an awkward conflict of interest.

(Canadian poetry) I was planning on being a physics major until I took George's course and realized I was in the wrong field. His roll call is a work of art. His lectures are structured like a poem. His is the class to take if you want to get something out of your education in addition to a degree.

Never have I seen someone have so much energy in a three hour evening class! A pleasure to listen to, but sometimes found it hard to participate in discussions. He's also a talented poet.

I was excited on the first day with all his talk about post-colonial lit. But then he didn't live up to the first day hype. He was unhelpful with his comments on papers. "Exotic syntax" was all he ever wrote on mine. English wasn't my bag after
