He's one of those profs that will kick your behind and truly test you on some critical thinking, but then you're the better for it. Presses you to understand a concept as it applies to the real world and not just memorize terms and facts. Teh textbook and assignments give you the material and his lectures take you to "the next level".

Professor Mack is a good teacher, but very hard. I deserved the C that I received. I tried to do all my readings but still had so much trouble in class due to poor lecture sessions in his class. I took Microecon with him and got a C. I'm taking Macroecon now and I'm passing with a A/B. So it was his teaching ways that was hard for me to adapt to

Excellent teacher. Talks about the real world situation about the macroeconomics. Test are more based on practical situation than theory. Make sure to do the MyEconLab exercise so you can have a complete understanding of the subject.

His class is only difficult if you do not read the book and do your work. Class is curved so that is an upside. Goes off topic a lot in class about random stuff and current events. If you are interested in Economics for the future this is a good class.

If you expect exam guides to be given, or a syllabus that outlines everything, or practice exams, or tests based on dead textbook materials... If you expect anything "given" to you or "spoon fed" to you, then you shouldn't take him. Mack is the real world. You take this course to learn real stuff not to achieve a grade to make you feel smart.

It's been about ten years since I took a course with Mack Daddy of Economics at Deanza. Though I have forgotten many of the things in the course, I will never forget his character in the classroom. He's a very bright person and teacher and you can get the most of out his class if you pay attention to your reading.

Im gonna make it simple for you guys. I dont recomend taking him unless you already have a good grasp on the subject, his class is VERY hard, and if this is your first econ class ur probably gonna fail. on the other hand mack is probly the funniest, coolest, realest teacher you will ever take! it breaks down like this: TEACHER=AWESOME! CLASS=HARD!

Highly recommended, fascinating class, wide variety of issues including current events are covered. The Homework is well structured, do it before class - otherwise you will be quite lost, the lecture builds on HW. Mack is very happy to explain things if you had issues, and also answers tangential questions well.

Highly knowledgeable and current about economics. Teaching methods are mediocre. Admin and organizational skills lacking. Take his class only if you want to teach yourself or have a friend who really knows the subject.

Prof. Mack speaks wisdom. He's the embodiment of the intellects. He talks a lot about fascinating real world stuff but he still tests you on the textbook material so read it. He's a tall, chill and laid-back fellow with epic mustache.

Econ - rational decisions are made using available information with the goal of improving ones condition. Not. Behavioral econ helps explain why people do not behave rationally and make poor decisions which negatively impact their present and future selves. Fascinating class and Dr. Mack is passionate about this subject - fun, game theory & econ.

Dr. Mack teaches at Stanford and De Anza, he's funny, brilliant and expects a lot of you. If you need macro economics, Dr. Mack is the one to take. The fact that he expects a lot of you is a good thing, he believes in you. Presents pertinent current issues in economics to bring the subject into today and gives you plenty of opportunity to do well.

One of the best teachers ever. You need read the book by yourself and you will understand what he is talking about in the class. I don't have any clue about the econ, but after I taking his class, I love this class. He is brilliant and nice. I love him and hope he has good health so more students can have chance to learn econ from him.

Brilliant economist, but very difficult to follow. Rarely explains any formulas, just lectures about the economy and his many experiences. Barely wrote a thing on the board. He expects you to learn everything yourself from the books, which he wrote. He's also a Stanford professor, so that explains his style and difficulty. Not an intro class!

I took ECON 1 with him too. He is definitely your best choice in De Anza. Even now I transferred to Berkeley, I still found I benefit a lot from his teachings. Fair curve, you earn what you deserve if you understand the materials. No tricky stuff, but perhaps you will want to know more what is going on in the world right now.
