First day, came off as draconian (his own words), no food/no drinks/no talking or moving around during screenings. However, not strictly enforced as the year went on (besides he always had a diet coke every class in a can). Discussing papers outside of class, different person, very helpful, made me consider minoring in film. Best prof film dept has

I really enjoyed his classes. Finally rooted in history and business rather then theory. Section on videogames taught by Jessica was very interesting. Exam is straight forward and directly from overhead notes. No surprises there. Great prof.

Extremely intelligent and clear.Very interesting, if you enjoy film and it's history. Be careful with essays, he is particular with grammar and punctuation. The final was difficult but doable(make sure you know the names of industry people he mentions and what company they're affiliated with). Mandatory attendance to pass, no slides, lots of notes.

I think McKnight gets a bad rep. His assignments are excellent- no BS, he's got a good sense of humour and I found him approachable. His choice of films is great- he doesn't just show you the textbook examples, and he's very astute to modern thinking on film. Take his Industry course, too.

presents material in dry fashion but it's all there and will be useful in the future. Face it, if you survive McK.'s monotone and lack-lustre presentation style, then nothing else ought to pose a challenge.

Which film ends with a door closing??? This is a question on a university exam? Oh, and there are other theorists than Laura Mulvey. I know she's your friend and all, but really, someone else might have said something interesting. I'm dumber now than before I took his classes. Um, sluuuuurp.

I have taken several classes with Prof. Mcknight and have always done well. it is easy to do well if you do the work and pay attention. all these people who gave him bad reviews are just whiny children who need to grow up. i find him very charming.

Very hard course with McKnight at the helm. He's knowledgable, but his lectures are very dry, and that doesn't help spice up the subject matter. Hates "flowery language" on essays. If you're majoring in Film and can survive this course, you're g
