i took Dr Stows classes in the 1970's i am amused that he still brags about his fancy cars and his love for opera (barf!) he was a great teacher who made you work your butt off for a good mark so what? i loved his classes if you wanted an easy A you went elsewhere if you wanted to learn you went to him

i took all of .his available courses over a 3 year period they were tough but fair you had to do the work he told his classes that they would forget most of the content as time passed but would learn how to think and write clearly those skills have remained with me and enriched my life ever since i have always been grateful to him for that.

Dr. Stow is everything one should hope for from La Salle - by expecting much from his students, those who are serious about education, in turn, learn to expect much of themselves. I was a student in Honors History 24 years ago and learned as much about my own drive to succeed from his teaching as I did about the Roman Empire. Hats off to Stow!

FOR HONORS STUDENTS. Hard class to take. Must outline whole chapters (30 pages each), memorize sources entirely (2-4 pages each), and take extremely good lecture notes to get a B or above. 3 tests per semester (3-4 chapters each). As a Business major I don’t see the point in the Honors Triple and I wouldn’t recommend it to others who are interested

Taking this class Freshman year was a huge mistake. Unless you want a low GPA, don't take a class taught by George Stow. He offers no help, and thinks everyone is a history genius. He can't go one class without mentioning how great the textbook, which he wrote it doing, or how great his car is. I have never met such an arrogant person.

Not a good teacher. SUCH a boring class. He makes terribly corny jokes. Very arrogant. Went to him for help and all he said was read the text book.. which he wrote. Not to mention text book is awful by the way. Avoid him at all costs. Biggest regret taking this as a freshman.

Dr. Stow was one of the best professors I have ever encountered. He expects a lot from his students, but he also gives a lot. You do have to work hard but Stow is VERY explicit about what he expects from you on the tests and the one paper that is required. I took him for several classes and he ALWAYS gave us hints for tests, especially essays.

Jumps around from topic to topic and time period to time period. Makes you memorize dates. Hard essay grader. This teacher killed all my interest i had in history.

Very cocky. He thinks he's better than you just because he has a nice car and knows how to play squash and listens to classical music. You have to read every single chapter and go to every lecture or you will be lost. And his essay questions are ridiculous. For example: explain the history of china. You also have to memorize dates.

Had him for history seminar for two semesters. Very knowledgeable, but also very demanding. Sem 1 was basically a medieval Brit history course with some thesis stuff mixed in. Sem 2 was more writing out thesis papers. Stow is a decent guy but will rip you if you dont put the work in. I didn't like being forced to do my thesis on medieval brit hist

He is a good teacher. Well versed in the subject matter, maybe a little showoffy when it comes to "how much he knows". But, he's up there sharing what he knows and he doesn't tolerate nonsense & he told us, sometimes I'm tired so I may be in a bad mood so excuse me in advance. I can dig that. I would take a class with him as the prof again. BHC

Worst teacher ever! You basically have to be a huge history buff to get a good grade in this class. If you want to do well you have to write down every word that he says in class and memorize all the names and dates in the history book. When it comes to the tests you basically have to write down everything you no or he'll give you a terrible grade!

Extremely difficult professor, you MUST read and take notes on the textbook and study extremely proficiently to pass his tests. Classes ranged between very interesting and very boring. His VERY dry sense of humor also falls on a range between unfunny and extremely enjoyable. If history isn't your favorite thing, this isn't the professor for you.

Dr. Stow is a great professor and his dry sense of humor brings a much-needed laugh to an otherwise boring situation. His tests can be challenging but if you read the chapters and participate in class then you should be fine.

I had Stow last semester and thought his class was painfully boring and he was a terrible teacher .. and I speak fine English. His jokes are not funny and often times he had a bad attitude. The 3 hour exams are way too detailed unless you are a complete history buff, which I am not. Worst grade I have recieved at LaSalle and I am an A- student.

To the person who posted 12/12/2005: I had George Stow several years ago and thought he was the best. After reading your illiterate rant, it became obvious why you did not do well. Dr. Stow demands scholarship. Anyone "college student" who still confuses "your" with "you're" is bound to receive a poor grade from him.
