Comment:

I don't like math, but because of Gerda, this was one of my favourite classes! She is very caring and makes math somewhat enjoyable. I looked forward to going to her class and all tests were very fair. You can tell she really wants you to succeed.

Comment:

Dr. de Vries put lots of effort into making sure all of her students understood the material and didn't hesitate to go over topics again if people didn't understand it. She was available to help with any questions. There was weekly homework, it helps to have people who you can work on it with, and in-class participation. Gave great lectures.

Comment:

Her love for the subject reflects on her lectures- their clear, and she has no problem going through more practice problems with the class. If you're completely new to Calculus, however, get ready to teach yourself a lot of stuff. There's weekly homework that's pretty challenging- it helps to get together with a couple of people to compare answers.

Comment:

Dr. de Vries is a wonderful professor who clearly cares about her students. Choose her. Math 134 is an easy class in itself but because of this it takes a high percentage grade to do well; I got a B+ with an 88, so beware. If you do your homework, practice a fair amount, and don't slack off, you will do fine. Lots of free marks, blended learning.

She's so kind and gives extremely helpful feedback. Her exams were neither easy nor hard. You just need to read her notes and review the summary materials carefully before doing several problems that she recommends.

Gerda isnt as specific in her expectations as I would hope for a prof teaching a first year class. Be aware that notation is very important and she gives little in the way of part marks. Lots of online homework and quizzes which often dont even pertain to what you would be tested on.

Comment:

I always looked forward to Dr. de Vries lectures, she creates a positive and productive work environment that is enjoyable for everyone. Her office hours are really helpful, and she teaches the flipped classroom method which helps with the preparation. The homework she assigns is pretty easy. If you struggle with calculus, look for Gerda!

Professor de Vries was an absolute treasure and it was amazing being in her class. Math 134 is more difficult than 114/115 since it has a lot of biological applications. Professor de Vries is very helpful during office hours. The class had a lot of work (pre-class quizzes 2x a week, online AND written hw). 4 in-class quizzes, no midterm. HARD FINAL

Dr. De Vries is the greatest math teacher I've ever had. She allows you to practice concepts in class, and math was by far the funnest class. Tests are very easy, but you still need to study.

Gerda is a fantastic prof. She is very accessible and even has online office hours on thursdays for extra help. Do the work and a little extra practice and you should be fine.

Gerda is so friendly and really cares about her students! She moves through meterial very fast but has lots of review session and office hours to help. Math 134 had lots of work with pre class videos and quizzes and homework, but overall easier than Math 114. No midterm and final was pretty easy.

I first took this class because it is calculus for life sciences instead of regular calculus. We had a lot of online homework and written homework due to the fact we have no midterm in this course. The homework helps you a lot to prepare for each topic and to boost your grade. She was really patient with students and is wonderful professor.

The overheads were very helpful, she also takes the time to do a midterm and final exam review (for a small donation to a charity). Very human and seems interested in teachine unlike other Engineering profs in the first year.

Excellent prof. Online notes are EXTREMELY helpful. The course starts easy and gets very hard after the midterm, but DeVries does a good job of making sure everything is well understood. One of the best Math Profs I have met. Only Tcaciuc gives her competition for the best math prof on campus.

Comment:

De Vries is a wonderful, wonderful teacher. Most of the people in my section agree that we got stiffed with almost all our profs, except for our Math prof. She's very clear, very concise, and it's actually possible to stay awake in her class. Getting a seat in her class is a challenge, and there's a good reason.
