Taking her was without a doubt one of the poorest choices I made freshmen year. She grades so hard, and will not hesitate to fail you if you aren't good at writing. Prepare yourself for a lot of reading, and going to class is mandatory because she WILL quiz you on all the readings. Unless she is your last possible option for ENGL1B, stay away

Had her at 7:30 am worse semester ever, she assigns a new essay every 2 weeks before you are even done with the current one you are writing. She is not understanding at all, very critical and boring. Do not take her if you have other classes that are consuming a big portion of your time because she thinks her class is the only one you are taking.

Worst class by far. The toughest grader, she constantly was having due dates that somehow only she knew about. Dont take her especially 7:30 starting your day with her is horrible. I can honestly say she was no help when visiting her office hours, basically if youre not that good of a writer she will let you fail w no attempt to encourage.

She's actually a really easygoing, nice person and extremely approachable. She's not an easy grader but I ended up getting an A- in her class. If you're pretty decent at writing and are willing to work hard then it's really not that bad, she does assign a lot of reading that we end up being quizzed on though :/ those usually suck.

English has always been my best subject so I was pretty disappointed when I only got a B in her class. I doubt it's impossible to get an A, but trust me, it's pretty freakin' hard. If you want an A and a smaller workload, you should avoid her.

She's a hard grader but, as long as you don't make a hundred grammer mistakes, she'll pass you. Getting an A though, it's almost impossible. In turns of the reading load, you only need to do the thursday assigned reading every other week. That's the one she ALWAYS gives a quiz on, and you could pick a topic from those readings for the essay.

She is extrememely hard!!! Her lectures are fine, but her grading is too hard and she doesn't let you slide with any grammar errors. I turned everything in and still did not pass the class!!! It is impossible to get an A in her class.

shes nice and all but her class is quite a challenge. she told us that shes a WST board member so she grades difficultly. the book is a neccessity to the class, reading is done everynight because she assigns a lot of reading. if your lazy, avoid her

She's nice, but it's a very difficult class. You have to read from the textbook nearly every night, and you have a test on those reading mostly every time. She grades hard on essays, my highest score was a 80%. You write a lot a lot of essays. Also, you have to do an in-class research paper that's veryyyy stressful.

Comment:

Collins is a hard, but rewarding teacher. If you want to learn to write, take her. Her readings are well-chosen and interesting - worth more than just reading assignments. Although you have to write a lot, she gives you lots of freedom and respects your opinions. Collins is very approachable if you go and see her during her office hours.

I couldn't stand her! She grades sooo hard on everything and gives an unbelievable amount of work. I was going to be an English Major, I had never gotten anything below an A+ before, and this lady gave me a NC. My essays were always below C's when nothing was terribly wrong with them. She shouldn't be teaching,FIRE HER! Worst teacher EVER!

Too many long essays, poor thought regarding (in class) research assignment, grades very difficultly. In addition, the material that she presents is very liberally biased (look at the course reader). If you write decent essays and agree with her views, you will pass decently.
