Dr. Morgentaler is awesome IF you try and get on board with her style of teaching. Read every piece of literature carefully and make notes of all details regarding the plot and the pop quizzes will not throw you TOO off-guard. She gets a bad rep for being too hard but frankly, if you try, Morgentaler will appreciate your effort.

I thought Dr. Morgentaler was a great professor. She is a hard marker and she does have a lot of quizzes but she is very fair in her marking and gives good feedback. You definitely will not be able to bs your way through her class. Her lectures are very interesting. Take specific notes because even the tiniest of details are on the midterm.

No feedback on how to improve papers. I went to her for help on the final paper, she read it over in front of me, said it was very good and after some small grammar corrections (it was a rough copy) it would be a good paper... polished the paper and handed it in... failed the class.

Was very specific of what she wants in her answers, she is very nice to begin with but I found if you don't participate in class she really frowns upon you. She makes you show lots of evidence to build your opinion which is really good, but she is a very difficult grader. Lectures are also very heavy and must pay attention to small details!

I do get along a little with this professor, I don't mind getting assignments to do, she gives it all more at the end of the semester. She does require you to back up your theories with evidence from the text, which is reasonable. However, the fact that we are not allowed to use any secondary sources, or else fail the assignments. Is a little rude.

Morgentaler has very high expectations and thinks very low of her students. Self-righteous and very old-school mindset. Finished HS with a 93 and got a 92 on the written portion of the high school diploma. Currently don't know my 1900 final mark yet, but averaging 60-65. Got a 60 on the last essay we wrote.

Openly insults you on your paper evaluations and does not offer ways to help you get better or give ideas on how to improve. Call this post millennial angst but it's a shame that she is allowed to teach this style.

She is the nicest lady! But also a crazy tough marker. She also has unrealistic expectations of her students, especially in 1900. She gives random quizzes at the start of class about the readings and the questions on them are far to specific. I hated her class and it killed my GPA

Although I found her to be genuinely nice and easy to interact with, she has unrealistic expectations for her students - especially on test. She does not specify what she is looking for when writing test question. This left me answer the questions to my best knowledge but it was never what she "was looking for." I would avoid taking her.

Goldie is a intelligent, insightful, and kind professor. She welcomes students interpretations of texts - as long as you can support your claims with textual evidence. She will push you to succeed. I highly recommend meeting with her prior to submitting an assignment to ensure you are on the right track. She gives excellent feedback.

She comes off as really strict and mean but she really isn't. She shows up to class to teach you. She isn't going to try and make you laugh, she's going to give you the information. Her midterms and finals are straight from lecture and she marks essays hard but not unfairly. One of the only profs to actually give me useful critiques on essays.

She's not as intimidating as she seems. She's a fairly hard marker, and has no problem disagreeing with your opinion, but contrary to popular belief, she's really quite friendly and likes her students. That doesn't mean she's easy to get along with, or that you'll get a good grade, but she's opinionated and stubborn, not hateful.

Definitely the worst prof I've ever had the displeasure of meeting. Very rude, very closed minded, no room for student interpretation, VERY tough marker, a generally unpleasant person. I had high 80s in HS English and am currently in danger of failing the class. She also has a habit of laughing at incorrect answers from students. DO NOT TAKE!

Often is condescending to students. I think she might dislike students. IF you dont have her opinion you are wrong. Her tests and quizzes are handwritten and they cover the most random but very detail oriented stuff from the text or something she said in a class. possibly one of the worst teachers i have ever had. How did she even get a job

Terrible. Does not give constructive criticism, just criticizes work and does not state what should or can be fixed. Very condescending and does not provide help at all.

Morgentaler's classes are hard, the lectures are dry, and her approach to literature is draconian. She is a difficult marker, leaving discouraging "feedback" on assignments. She refuses to listen to contemporary theory and approaches, or alternate interpretations, regardless of textual evidence.

Prof. Morgentaler is a very, very, very difficult marker. She is so strict in class and attendance is highly mandatory. Her use of textbooks is also very compulsory. Despite the fact that she is a difficult marker, I encourage students to take her class because she teaches very well.

She is a very very very very hard marker. For example on a test if she asks for two examples of x and you give her two perfectly legitimate examples or x that she in fact said in her lectures she will still fail you if it isn't the exact two she had in her head at the time. She also gives 0 help or support when asked.
