Gopal knows everyone in town. But in terms of teaching: if you aren't that confident in high level academic language, he will be difficult to understand. He speaks in a stream of consciousness, but once you get his style, it's inspirational. He is also very willing to sit and talk to you, if you meet up with him. Even with other classes.

Gopal is a very charming man who can become flustered at times, he would be much more inspiring to listen to in a small seminar. Open to questions and discussion. What he lacks in leadership skills he makes up for with in theoretical analyses.

I am glad I'm not the only one who found Gopal to be eccentrically attractive! He is a brilliant prof but his lectures did lack clarity at times.

This course was supposed to be an upper level politics course, which was a bit disjointed. His lectures were unfocused and lacking engagement. His politics were salient features to the class, while alternative political voices were unwelcome.

I do not agree with this guys politics BUT he is very open minded and does not shove his opinions down your throat like many UCSC professors. I thought he chose readings everyone could enjoy and learn from regardless of political orientation. The TA's submitted helpful feedback on papers. Both he and TA's encouraged questions/comments.

Incredibly intelligent. He is an excellent lecturer but sometimes very hard to understand. Lots of reading and very hard concepts to understand. I would reccomend this class for upper class students. Really sparked an interest in Marxist theory. (and he does look like an indian Jeff Goldbloom for sure)

The grading was easy, but the material was not, and he knows this. Overall, good teacher and good class. Lots of reading though, which i did not do. He is more of a teacher that is concerned about the learning and not as much emphasis on the grading.
