First time I heard Dr. Shrimpton (war in Ancient Greece - not my first choice!), he opened up the relevance between events, conditions, and behaviour through history. He sparked interest in aspects of socio-political development that I hadn't considered before. He's also very patient, supportive, dedicated to students' success. Basically awesome.

Dr.Shrimpton was a great professor. UVic will have suffered a great loss with the advent of his retirement, which to my knowledge has happened. If one has the opportunity to take a class he teaches, do so; don't miss the chance.

He's not the easiest marker in the GRS department, but put in the time and effort and it pays off. He's also very approachable and helpful.

Brilliant lecturer. At first he seemed repetative, but after a while I picked up the subtilties in the ideas he was xpounding. His tangents are also valuable, as they try to explain the conecepts in other ways. His marking is fair and the final is worth so much so that you can proove what you learne

His lectures are very interesting, he does go off on frequent tangents, but these too are usually fascinating. His tests are fair, and although he puts so much weight on the final, he gives very liberal clues to its questions beforehand.

Good prof, definitely knows his material. Picked a textbook he doesn't seem to like (and that I didn't like either), which was puzzling. Tendency to ramble, sometimes quite interesting rambles though. Quite friendly. You only have to memorize the material and you'll do fine. The exercises are easy.

absolutely brilliant one-on-one, but his class can be tough because of his sometimes wayward lecture style, but take power point notes and DO THE READINGS and you will be fine. The weighting of his finals can be scary, but he marks them easy.

the most boring class ever. his powerpoint notes are crap, not very organized, marking scheme is very disproportionate (10% midterm, 35% paper, 55% final). Just a bad, boring class.

The only reason he is like my grandpa is because he is senile. Has no idea what is going on. Extremely unhelpful and terribly boring. Awful AWFUL professor. Should not be allowed to teach.

So dry that you often miss out on the funny bits. Can't fault his Greek history though. Either love him or hate him (probably has a lot to do with whether you sleep through his jokes).
