Professor Forter knows his material, but he also values student input and analysis. You'll have to read A LOT, but the material is manageable, and there is little work other than usual English papers spread throughout the semester. Get his opinions on your drafts; he's willing to read and help. He's also willing to help in all things English!!

Dr. Forter is an amazing man who really cares that you learn the course material. You'll have to read a lot, but he doesn't give reading quizzes so as long as you look up the sparknotes, you should be fine for class discussion. Be prepared to circle up in his class.

Forter is by far the best professor I've had in my three years at USC. His class discussions are enlightening and entertaining; he always praises students for their ideas and introduces incredibly illuminating concepts. He is very kind and understanding if you need an extension on a paper, and he makes literature fun. Definitely take him if you can

AMAZING lectures. Dr. Forter blows my mind in every single class. Best professor I have ever had -- teaches in a way that few could manage. His paper feedback leaves you on Cloud 9 for days. He makes everyone feel brilliant. Every word he says is brilliant and valuable. Hes also hilarious. TAKE THIS CLASS. TALK TO HIM. GO TO OFFICE HOURS. BEST EVER

Lots of reading but Prof. Forter makes class discussion and material very interesting. Going to class is important for the final and doing the homework is important for quizzes. This class requires work but the prof. makes it interesting and allows for a lot of student interpretation of materials.

Favorite teacher by far while in college. You do have to do the readings but they are all interesting. He makes the class fun and makes you want to get involved. Only two papers and not long ones either. Recommend taking him! loved this class!

Dr. Forter has such a great passion for modernism and wants you to become just as passionate. He makes you feel as though you are the most brilliant person on the planet and is always up for refutes against his own beliefs. You discuss complex theories but Dr. Forter always makes sure everyone is one the same page. By far favorite professor!!

Best teacher I've had in my four years at USC! Prof. Forter allows you to think freely about literature while helping to guide you in the right direction on your papers. He appreciates all input by students during class and always makes you feel that your comments are important. I took him for 287 and am thrilled to take him again for 385!

Forter is the best professor ever. He is so funny and so helpful. The class is hard but he is always willing to help. He really wants his students to succeed. I actually enjoyed going to his class because it was always interesting and funny. He loves cats and can get off topic to talk about them sometimes. Would definitely recommend!!!

Easily my favorite professor at USC. Dr. Forter is so brilliant at facilitating class discussions and encouraging students to engage with the text. Two 1.5-2 page papers, one 5 page paper, and a final. Always willing to help and arrange times to meet with you about papers. He's super quirky and fun, which makes students want to come to class.

He is enlightened when it comes to the text, but his ego demands that you agree with him and write about his ideas. Classes are not opened to discussion and input is interrupted. Loved the books, disliked the way I was made to think about them. If you prefer to think than be lectured to, then this is not the class for you.

This is hands down the best prof I have ever had. I am an english major, but he cares about the students and wants everyone to understand and to find something in the readings that they can be passionate about. Anyone who doesn't like him clearly doesn't do any work, because all he asks is that you read the books and then actually try on papers.

This man is the reason I changed majors. He does know what he is talking about, but you can only agree with him, if you do not agree with him you are out of luck. He also admits to making up stuff , and coming up with stuff on his own, rather than what is generally accepted. Class is fun, and you do learn alot, but he is a very harsh grader.

He knows what he is talking about and is very interested in it. The downside is he is not very helpful and if you disagree with his opinion then you are out of luck. It is either his way or no way. He teaches Advance writing and even though it is an intro class he grades your papers like you are in advanced writing.

Class designed for English majors only. I and 3 others changed majors at the end of this class. His teaching antics would work well in middle school, and his ego gets in the way of the literature we're working on.

I loved his class so much I took him twice. People actually teared up on the last day of class, as everyone had bonded so much over the amazing group discussions. I learned to read the books I loved so much more deeply than before, and learned to love books I never had before. I have a hard time imagining anyone regretting taking his classes.
