Comment:

Initially, I mistook Gretchen's extreme positivity for a kind of pill-popping naivete. She once changed the word "would" to "could" to "should" for dramatic effect. I realized her "why not" mentality is invaluably supportive and that she cares about her student's work as much as her own. A guide who's not afraid to push the limits of her field.

In one of our crits a student actually did a headstand feeling that "they had been sitting around too long" Gretchen just watched with this dumbass smirk on her face. I wish she cared less about being liked and more about teaching. Her classes= not challenging, not rigorous, lots of busy work.

Gretchen is excellent to talk to, and tries very hard to come up with insight and relevance for each students projects. Unfortunatly architecture has become so 'hip' at this school that class time is invariably wasted on a bunch of rif-raff with very weak skills and ideas- which G ends up validating

Gretchen dosn't run as tight a ship as she should. It would appear that she is too easy on students and lets a lot of BS go undetected. I wish she were much more rigorous in critiques- The architecture program has come to get a kindof softie reputation, that G. dosn't seem too interesed in improving
