In order to really get the most out of her classes, you better take good notes. That and including quotes, info, and stats from the textbooks she assigns in your papers will help you so much. Her classes are small, but not discussion-focused - she lectures. She welcomes questions though. One of the best professors at Smith!

Comment:

Fluid lectures may put off some students but she's informative, clear, and very intelligent. Unlike some other professors at smith, she's also surprisingly unpretentious, easy to be around, and a fair grader. She's also a Zionist. However she listens to viewpoints different from her own-contrary to the reviews of other students.

Donna is an EXCELLENT professor. I happen to have nearly opposite views and enjoyed my numerous classes/special studies with Donna. She's brilliant!!

Donna Divine is one of the biased professors I have ever come across, although she tries to be quite subtle about it. Has no patience for her student's opinions and she needs to move towards academic objectivity, instead of pushing her political agendas.

Although I've heard different from people who take seminars with her, I would never take another class with her again. She strays from topic so often that the readings become irrelevant and the class fell so far behind it was almost impossible to have enough material to use for the assigned essays (dates were not changed from beginning of class)

so biased. she tries not to be, but doesnt try very hard. a zionist, and very blatantly favors the overtly zionist students. if you have an open mind, and are comming to this class to learn about the subject.... dont. you will only get one side. and its not the good one.

Donna is the reason I got a Ph.D., and teaching many of the courses that I first took with her, I now have a much deeper appreciation for her ability to express her opinion AS opinion, and to leave room for others to express (and explore) their own. At the end of the day, she's a true scholar & elicits the same inquisitive rigor from her students.

I had to poke my friend to keep her from falling asleep during some of the 9 am lectures, but overall, she was very nice. Her final was the topic of a hell of a lot of Daily Jolt complaining. Topics included not only things not even touched on in class, but also things not even found in the assigned readings. It sucked.

Donna is a wonderful lecturer, but I found this class ridiculous for the main reason that the papers were NEVER explained in class. The papers she assigned were, in her words, to make sure you did the reading. The readings were tough w/o clarification.
