Comment:

She was very clear while explaining things in class. A lot of homework is given every day, but she goes over it in class the next day and it helps a lot to do it! Ms. Hetler seems very cold at first but is very nice. If you struggle with math I'd recommend a different teacher, but if you can hold your own she's a great teacher!

Terrible professor. Neglects to clarify when asked, does a terrible job of explaining concepts and is an unkind and unhappy person. I would recommend avoiding this professor if at all possible.

Professor is terrible. If you need a math class and Gwen Hetler is the only one teaching it, go to Bay College and take the class there and transfer the credit from that class to NMU. Gwen Hetler should quit teaching and go into retirement.

She is absolutely horrible! I am not bad at math, but not great at it either. I am failing her class. She doesn't explain things well. Throws terms at you you've never heard of. Expects you to already know how to do the work before she's taught it. She loves fractions and story problems...so if you hate those, stay away!

Stay away from this professor at all cost!!! If you need this course, take it at Bay College or another institution and transfer the MA-090 equivalent to NMU if there are no other instructors teaching it. Ms. Hetler is useless. Believe it or not, her courses have the HIGHEST failure rates on campus.

Sometimes I feel like I am playing manipulative number and word games when i am doing my homework. She doesn't go over the material well. Thank god for the tutoring center otherwise id fail. Her text book is poorly published, wording is terrible, some of the instructions don't make logical sense. I would take the most extreme measures to avoid her.

She has her own way of teaching, uses her own poorly published book. Some of the terminology and methods she uses are all her own and seemingly make no sense at all. Shes the only one teaching this class unfortunately. I would go to any degree to avoid her next time even if it meant transferring to another school.

DONT take math courses from this professor. She is very picky and on quizzes and tests she requires you to do problems using her method and marks the problem wrong even with a correct answer. Take note that the courses taught by Gwen Hetler have the highest failure rates of all math classes at NMU. If you can, stay away from her!!!!

She is difficult to mwrk with. When a student has to miss because of illness, she will assume that you are trying to skip class or make up some other reason with out checking things out. She will not work with you. NMU administration has had to intervene on different occasions to straighten stuff like this out.

The worst math teacher I've ever had. Wrote the book NMU uses and it sucks. Makes the simplest stuff complicated. I've had better luck figuring out how to do a problem by going to the internet! Not always friendly either!!

I HATE MATH!!! and im not very good at it either, but i actually did learn in this class. She is a very good math teacher, as long as i came to class and took the little examples she puts on the board as notes, i actually understood what was going on. I would recommend her as a prof. to anyone.

professor put some kids to sleep but i thought she taught well and i was never confused in her class. Nice teacher and funny at times. I would recommend her as a teacher.
