I had this teacher for calc 2,which I am very good at. During lectures, he usually just talked about his life and opinions. When working out a problem, he worked it out some of the way, then after getting to a certain point would say the rest was easy. This was the first math class I got below an A in, and I tend to be very good at Calculus.

I had Hal back in 02 for trig/pre calc and he was by far the most interesting off the wall proffesor. He definitley gets on tangents about dead mathmeticians and other stories. My favorite memory was when he told a student to go F himself after he told Hal his test sucked! Read the book and do the problems he assigns its the only way youll pass!

He gets off on tangents a lot. He is a pretty good teacher but you need to pay attention to what is going on or you will get lost sometimes. He is helpful. But kind of crazy.

He goes off on tons of tangents, and likes to present stuff from other math classes that have nothing to do with the one you're taking (one day he showed us something from grad school even). But overall once you get over his quirks he's a great guy and very helpful.

He's a little rough in the beginning, bu once you get used to him, he's not bad. He's a very easy grader on tests, which are exactly like his examples for the most part.As others have said, he does go off on a lot of tangents about stuff that has nothing to do with the class. He's great with questions.

This guys likes to tell stories and gets sidetracked really easily. You can use 1 page of notes on the exams. He has an attendance sheet which i was only present for twice so im not sure what thats about. But I was still able to get a B by doing problems from the book and going to class once in a while.

Great professor! Makes math interesting by relating it to real world situations. Some may not like that he tells stories while teaching, but it really helps me remember the material. If you pay attention, you don't need the book.

You have to get to know Hal... he is the best teacher ever... he never likes to fail people so if you show up you’re guaranteed to pass... he does do a lot on the history of math (it’s a running joke that all of his classes are the history of mathematics). Great guy but tends to ramble about things you dont need to know. I taught myself everything out of the calculus book but still found myself stuck in class due to attendance policies. Is fair with testing though, and lets you know what type of problems wil be presented, except for acouple odd balls that might hurt you.

Hal is great. I love the page of notes you get to use on all his exams. Also he ONLY tests on matterial he has covered. Go to class do, al least look at the homework and you will be fine.

Better off taking an online Calculus Course becuase at least then you can teach yourself on your own time. He enforces an attendance rule so you must go and listen to him ramble for an hour a day every day of the week. Take the other prof instead.

He is an AWSOME Prof. Halarious [if you have a good math background] He is by far my favorite professor so far:).. You have to work for it, but he is ALWAYS willing to help~~ You also have to show him that you are interested in learning-- otherwise he has no interest in teaching you [good property]

This guy is hilarious. I absolutely loved him. He goes off on crazy tangents that hardly apply to the class at all. If you're good at math and don't need every little thing spelled out for you, get this guy. If you're not so good at math, find someone else.
