If you're a film major- Benshoff is a must before you graduate. It'll be the hardest class you take so far but also one of the most important to your education. He is the most critically acclaimed film theory professor we have in the program and is an incredible speaker. His courses will forever change the way you look at film and sexuality.

Harry Benshoff is a great professor. I had him for one of the pre major classes as well. RTVF classes are not blow off courses and you must read the Material. His class is very enjoyable- and he truly loves film and is very knowledgeable in the subject. Grades hard, TA's may do the grades. Got a B &C in each class. Great conversations on film.

I learned a lot from Professor Benshoff. READ THE BOOK! READ THE BOOM! READ THE BOOK! If you do this, you will do fine on the tests. Plus, it's actually interesting material. Also, go to class and watch the movies. You either like him or you don't. I liked him. If you're easily offended, you may not. But he knows his stuff!

Brilliant and hilarious guy, wrote the textbook for the class. As long as you go to all the classes (even though they're super long) and read all the chapters and case studies, you'll do do fine on the three tests. There's also two or three papers, if you make a B+ or higher on either of the first two papers, you don't have to write a third.

You will learn a lot from this professor and the psychoanalysis of cinema. Although his class is admittedly hard, it's a lot of fun and a very entertaining class. One of the best professors at UNT.

Dr. Benshoff is a phenomenal professor. He is open minded in the class discussions and always willing to help and answer questions (he even gives time before each exam to answer detailed questions). He offers extra credit on the papers. You really have to apply yourself and read his textbook, but you will 100% benefit and learn a lot in this class

Although his class was tough I throughly enjoyed it. Benshoff knows the material well and has even written textbooks for it. Reading is a MUST! Read the textbooks and especially the case studies, he refers to them often. Use the vocab in your papers, he looks for applied knowledge. Do all this and go to class, and you will be fine. Great professor!

Harry is a standup guy. This is how you earn an A: 1. Take detailed notes. If it's on the board. It's on the test. 2. Know how those notes pertain to the reading material. 3. If you have a question - ask. 4. Class participation. Do the extra credit. This class isn't organic chemistry. But, it does require you to "think."

Professor Benshoff is probably the greatest professor I have ever had. He is extremely passionate and knowledgable on the material he teaches. Expect to work and study hard as it is not an easy course.

This is a fun class, but you have to know your stuff to do well on the tests. You must read all the assigned chapters. The papers are graded pretty heavily. Each test consists of 70-75 multiple choice questions, but many of the questions are like, "Which is NOT like this..." So, start studying about a week before the test, not the night before.

This class rocks. However, that doesn't stop the tests from being remarkably brutal. Do NOT think you can magically pass them without studying. Read, read, read the assigned chapters and lecture notes. Dr. Benshoff is amazing and a genius is his field. I can't wait to take his Queer Cinema class!

Benshoff's classes are very interesting. You will learn tons and view films in a new way. He does force his opinions on you. Also,he asks you to participate and to ask questions but then makes you look like a complete idiot. Read the books, take notes, go to class and DON'T ask questions. He's cool if you have a question and ask it one on one.

first half is interesting, but second half was blah. You have to read and take notes or you won't pass. He is very energetic but his opinions should sometime be kept in a box. Just sayin. Papers he grades are based off the topics he teaches, so focus your paper on those subjects. He uses 2 books, so read both of them.

Dr. Benshoff is a fantastic teacher! His lectures were entertaining, but also informative. He can be a bit condescending, but it's easy to overlook since his class is so interesting. It's very important to keep up with the chapters - otherwise the tests are brutal. Overall, great class!

If you can find it in you to disregard his intense ego and what I say must be right even though an anaylsis of anything is always subjective, then he's actually a really great, engaging professor. You MUST do the readings and attend class to survive the tests but he's pretty funny usually and never boring. Just wish he could work on that huge ego.

Dr. Harry Benshoff is an amazing professor and one of my all time favorite professors. He is so funny and has a great sense of humor. He is a tough teacher though, and you MUST MUST read the material for the exams. Take your paper to him to get pointers as the Paper is arather difficult, so you want to be on track. The horror class was great too.
