Very organized lectures and very warm personality. Definitely go to the AlthusserFoucault lectures. I also really liked the idea of mini-essays. Concise, caring instructor. I would have liked to read more political philosophy, however, rather than novels.

Great professor. Loved the class. Interesting content, forced me to think in a different way and improved my writing dramatically. Nice guy too, always willing to help and discuss things. Entertains everyone's point of view and brought a nice focus on feminism into a class on cyberculture, which was unexpected but awesome.

Wonderful professor and a great guy. Interesting assignments, values student opinions and very easy to talk to. Also a good writing instructor. Cyberculture was phenomenal and the reading choices were interesting. Take a course from him, if you can!

great prof, clear and engaging in classes. Must attend as there is participation grade. He is willing to spend time and get to know you. Also, very understanding and kind individual. He will give you a good grade if you try hard enough. He made me enjoy English class even though I hated it in high school.

English is extremely boring. It does not justify six hundred dollars learning worthless fictional garbage, but it was a prerequisite for my program. This class is nothing more than proving, with a few papers and essays, that you can write. If English is not your interest: STEM, business, law, econ, or education would be a better choice

Awesome prof, always tried to validate everyone's opinion. Very clear in what he expected you to get out of the novels and really quick to get stuff back to you. Made going to class interesting and entertaining. I would totally take his class again.

Dr Quamen is a great guy. He really makes an effort to foster class discussion. If you have a point to make in class, he will go out of his way to entertain it and relate it to the material. He marks fairly, though he took a while to get assignments back. I found his class to be incredibly interesting, and he is a very helpful prof.

Incredibly knowledgeable, insightful, and approachable. Excellent sense of humour and nice, laid-back temperament. Nice balance of discussion and lecture in class with great presentations. Lots of feedback on assignments- honest and constructive... best prof. I've had at the U of A.

The Q Man displays a great deal of keenness for the material, and he works nonstop to keep you engaged. To call him approachable would be an understatement. One could say he teaches theory in a nutshell, infusing a lot of makeshift techniques and examples, which I happened to need, but others may find that approach vacuous.

Very nice prof. I didn't like that we didn't get any marks in this course except for the 4 insight papers but he mentioned those marks are going to be scaled either up or down by the end. So I have no idea what kind of grade to expect from this course.

Dr. Quamen is everything you could ask for in an engl. prof. Know his stuff cold, very smart, very polite. Very helpful in class and out. Writes meaningful comments on your work and entertains viewpoints that are contrary to his own. A consummate professional. Take his class if you want to learn.
