His lecture style during the seminar was particularly dry and uninspiring for the most part. I also was not a big fan of the 50% essay / 50% final exam format. Would definitely not recommend taking Canadian history with him again.

Patronizing and horrible prof. One of the worst classes that I have ever taken at Alberta.

Dr. Mills was an awesome prof that knows his stuff, and he always cracks in a joke every now and again in more dry topics. It's a shame that he is retiring because of UofA budget cuts, because he's definitely not a burnout. Hopefully he enjoys retirement and comes back as a contract instructor. I'd definitely take another class with him.

I found his lectures to be very unstructured and dry. He would spit out random facts in no particular order, jumping back and forth around time periods, then coming back to the same topic 20 minutes later, this made taking notes impossible and even more difficult to study afterwards. 4th year 3.87 gpa student, one of the worst prof ive had in 4yrs

Best Uni prof I've had thus far it's a shame he's retiring after this term. The man took the most boring subject and turned the lectures into enjoyable classes that I looked forward to. All the best to him in his retirement years!

Professor Mills was an AMAZING professor, with a true passion for teaching, and Canadian History. He made boring lectures bearable by adding a couple jokes. He was away from our class as he was injured, for a month, and the replacement was extremely difficult to listen to, and made me appreciate Dr. Mills that much more!

Dr. Mills definitely knows his stuff. Although the topic was pretty boring, Mills always adds a few jokes in his lecture to keep your attention. 50% paper and 50% exam... You won't hear many people complaining about that!

Good enough prof, knowledgeable and willing to answer questions. Lectures were all the same, a constant flow of information with few breaks. Marks were a final and paper, nothing more, but the paper had the chance to be rewritten after being submitted and graded.

Professor Mills is highly knowledgeable in this field, however it is an incredibly boring class to attend. It's hard not to fall asleep. The textbook was more or less useless. TA for this class marked very unfairly and was unwilling to change grades for anything. Only an essay and a final, each worth 50% of the overall grade. Sooo boooring.

I love Dr. Mills. He was a fantastic prof, and his lectures were so interesting and engaging. I found him hilarious, and loved attending his lectures. No midterm, just one paper and one take-home final, which was somewhat scary, but he was extremely helpful, and a fair marker. Would definitely take another class with him.

I took Dr. Mills' 260 and 261 class. Regardless of the fact that his lecturing can come off as dry and boring, he packs the information in and practically hands you the exam questions and the information to answer them. Alternatively, if you don't go to class, the textbook does that for you. And you ca rewrite the essay, so 50% is nothing!

Horrible class. I'm a science student but I took this class as an arts elective because I really wanted to learn more about Canadian history. Waste of time. He brushes over important events like the War of 1812, but spends 2 lectures talking about settlement patterns. They make it sound easy by no midterms, but it is a trick.

I actually enjoyed Mills' lectures, much to my surprise. His subject matter is completely boring, but he does his best to make it interesting and incorporate some humor and he gets the important aspects across well. Attendance is not mandatory, but I would recommend reading the textbook.

Mills was the best teacher I have ever had in my whole life. I have never been interested in history until I took his course. He is soo helpful & truly wants his students to succeed. Completely fair with marking. He provides the questions to final before, so although the exam is worth 50% of your over all mark, you are completely prepared AMAZING!!

Mr. Mills gives boring and monotoned lectures. His course weighting was 50% research paper & 50% final. At first this was awesome, as the course demanded little throughout the semestre, however proved to be extremely stressful come exam time. No feedback, no room for improvement. He KILLED my interest in Canadian History.
