Really is a terrible professor. Makes it clear from day 1 that he does not want to see you at his office hours and basically makes the TAs do everything besides for 'lecturing' - which is he awful at. He mumbles and simply can't provide any clear explanations, not to mention that he makes the exams absurdly long and difficult.

Horrible, horrible, horrible prof. Made me want to change majors. He makes it clear that you should only burden him with questions in last resort, grades too harshly and literally SCREAMS AT PEOPLE WHEN THEY LEAVE CLASS. Don't go to class, he does not explain anything that the textbook or the notes he posts online don't. DO NOT TAKE HIM, RUN!!!

Hard class but very interesting. He goes beyond the book by showing us more calc based problems . Study hard, GO TO CLASS and re-do all the problems he gives. Tough grader and very hard midterms but at least I feel like I learned something and my major had some value. Real economics has tons on calc, it's normal that he wants to show us more

This is basically a math course. Will make you want to drop Econ as your major. Midterms were insanely hard and completely calculus based. Try to avoid his class at all costs.

I really do not get his point of making the midterms this hard and lengthy. This is a 200 Level course so please behave within that. He makes students hate Economics which is terrible, especially if you take into account that most of the students are taking their first economics course with him...

Maths heavy, is able to make you want to drop your economics major. Boring lectures, boring exercises. You will be tested on your ability to solve microeconomic (more like maths or physics) problems, not your knowledge of economics and its concepts. Tough grader (class average around 65 for the midterm despite being given the choice to not hand it)

Midterm questions are confusing and badly written. He will also use content never seen before. If you do go to lectures, you'll probably fall asleep. He is as dry as microeconomics or at least the way he teaches the subject. If you want to get a good grade avoid him. He calls out students when they leave lectures.

I don't get any idea of the meaning of making the exam so difficult and setting questions in a way which intended to make students feel confused. The questions are not clear and out of the criterial of lectures. I don't think the exam matches the level of the lecture and he didn't allow us to leave early even we have classes afterwards.

This is the worst prof on campus. What is his background? Why does the school still keep him? I am curious. Violated our students' rights, really test us on something we never studied? To students: Avoid him!!!!!! To school: Fire him for your reputation!

He is the only prof in econ that I don't want to take his course any more... have no passion about teaching and students at all. The department should really consider replace him and find someone who cares about students

Microeconomic theory was depressing and rough all year along. The class average for Benchkroun's final exam is a failing 54 percent, and that's with a curve too! I hope future students who choose economics major know what they're doing and realize that this is a required year-long course. Otherwise, run away completely.

2 midterms and exams were relatively hard/graded harshly- theory is mostly covered in class, but the long answers on these assessments were more calculus-based (i wish he gave us more problems beyond the simple ones in MyEconLab); boring lectures but an overall decently nice guy; participation and Webwork marks are very easy to get; can be funny

HB is the worst professor I've ever had. His exams are unfair because he tests us on material not in the textbook so you have no practice material. He also gives no part marks so the grading is also unfair. He doesn't care about his students, won't tell them test material, or even the ROOM LOCATION of the midterm until the day of!! DONT TAKE HIM.

Comment:
Very math heavy compared to the first semester of this course. HB covered almost no theory. His lectures are incredibly boring, and you can figure out the assignments by reading the book and using online sources with little trouble. His exams are modeled after the assignments, which themselves aren't bad but his grading criteria is RIGID.
