I love Professor Harley. I took Cognitive Psych, an ISP, and a few other classes, and she was my thesis sponsor. She is an extremely well-qualified, intelligent, wonderful person to be around. She WILL make you work hard, though. Don't take her classes expecting to coast. Listen to her feedback on papers and your writing will greatly improve.

Comment:

I found her schtick to be more package and less product. Though she is a caring, fun, and kindhearted individual, I learned the least from her, compared to all of my other Psych profs. Further, beyond goofy (yet endearing) antics and (somewhat interesting) personal life tangents, I found very little substance in her approach, and she taught Cog!

This was an Intro Psych class that felt like a waste of my time. It's incredibly easy and it's a class you have to take in order to take upper level psychology classes. I can't imagine any one not passing. Do the reading assignments, come to class, and talk and she will appreciate you.

Professor Harley is great. Her lectures are always entertaining/amusing and you will find yourself knowing everything on the exam if you've paid any attention at all during class. Highly recommended, although one should bear in mind that Cog Psych is probably the most difficult of the Intermediate Psych classes.

She really didn't work WITH us on our ISP. We didn't ask for it, though. If you want someone to leave you alone & not ever check up on your progress, she's the one. Doesn't have official office hours, though. EDIT: As of 01/22/06 she still hasn't evaluated it.

This was by far the biggest waste of time ever. Hedi is great, I love her. But this class should be banished to the lowest level of hell. Listening to Jono talk about nothing for three hours was worse than being shot.

Comment:

Harley's clearly very dedicated to environmental issues and animal cognition studies. I think she has a hard time teaching intro classes. Perhaps she's better equipped to teach upper level seminars. Some of the projects and homework she assigns are too easy, except for the fact that she's quite vague in assigning them. There have been quite a few instances in just these first three weeks of mass confusion in the class as to what she's expecting. But she's excited and very sweet.

She was always very enthusiastic and cheerful in class. I liked her alternative assignments and groupwork, I thought they broke the monotony of going to the same classes every week. Also, she had us give food-related presentations at the end of the semester instead of having an exam, which was awesome.

extremely supportive and helpful to me throughout my whole collegiate career. she made me feel that my input was always welcome and actually was of high value to the whole class. she not only approved my 'monkey language' study project with excitement, but allowed anyone in the class to join me as alternative to the standard project.

Heidi is the best professor, or indeed person, I've ever met. She treats everyone as individuals - her capacity for empathy is amazing. She maintains high standards for her students and herself; she is an expert in her field. Her teaching is inspiring and entertaining. All her classes are excellent.
