I don't know why people say Prof. P/the class is boring; out of all my classes this semester, this is by far my favorite. Prof P is an excellent speaker, very clear, and thorough with her lectures; she provides you with a mountain of info/readings, which, although time consuming, are extremely helpful to really grasping the concepts.

This class is boring, but if you pay attention and read the readings the class isnt bad. The papers that are due every week are really laid back and if you do the readings and answer the question the TA gives you for the paper you will be fine. If you don't like to talk during discussions you better learn too, if you don't you will fail discussion.

She presents the material in a very dull way making it quite hard to pay attention. And if you don't keep up in lecture or on the readings it will be hard to understand the exams.

The class is interesting overall but be sure to be prepared to write a lot. Every week there will be a paper due at discussion and all of the exams are essay based. The final exam is brutal and worth 35% of the entire course and you are expected to know multiple sources of information and have read "Black Apollo of Science".

Difficult to follow along with during lectures. If you don't like reading or writing, don't take this course. Read all the assigned readings otherwise you will definitely fall behind. There are papers due every week in discussion and they are all based on the readings

Prof. P is an intersting woman. She is great at what she does, but needs to present the material in a more interesting way. Some of the units are dull and could barely stay awake, but the others have your attention the whole time. If you like Race/Science/Medicine, take this course when offered.

Its alright. You need to come into it willing to write, with clean mechanics. I missed a couple of days, and maybe a couple of readings, but wrote miraculous papers. Pretty easy overall.

She is really nice and professional. She just teaches the material, she doesn't try to present her political/religious views. Practice writing the essay exams from the outlines she gives before each test. Very helpful. Discussions are easy, one presentation is mandatory but you can pick the topic from a list.

Prof. Pycior is awesome! Very helpful and really adorable in an older-woman-sort-of-way. Possibly one of the nicest, most intelligent and well-read human beings I have ever meant. Her best feature is her occasional awkwardness followed by an encouraging comment. Talk to her about animals!

Don't forget to attend discussion if you are trying to get an A. Complete everything and read the readings and books, don't expect to learn from lecture. You should meet up with others to discuss your thoughts about material for writing essays. 3 exams were essay format, one or two m.c...and short answer. Should know specifics like major people.

Really great class! Name of class is a little misleading though- "Race, science and medicine in US". I think it should have been called "Important African American Scientists of the 20th Centuary" since that's mostly what we covered. Great class, great teacher too!!
