Comment:

Likes to talk about herself- which makes a 3 hour lecture much more dreadful when you are hearing the same stories over and over. She doesn't use owl. And is rough on the final exam- putting random statistics in from the textbook

Comment:

Dr. Cummins has a very old school style of teaching as she does not use owl and only writes on the chalkboard. Her tests are quite unfair in regards to the course readings and lectures. Dr. Cummins also likes to discuss her own personal life in her lectures and often gets carried away.

Comment:

Dr. Cummins is super sweet, she's just a tough professor if you're not into old school style teaching. Exams are extremely random and things you would never think to study and worth 30-40% each. I would recommend another prof honestly!

I LOVED learning from Dr. Cummins. She is thoughtful and kind. I found her teaching style suitable for my learning preferences. One needs to do her work to do well in Dr. Cummins course, but it is possible to EARN good grades in her course!

Really needs to start using Owl! Stands at the front and talks for 3 hours with hardly any break. Very boring classes. She is a nice lady but has an old school teaching style .

I would NOT recommend taking this class. 3 hour lecture and barely gives a break. Does not use OWL so all notes come from what she says and you write down. very old school teaching style. Not very considerate or helpful if you have an issue. one of the worst classes I have taken so far.

Dr Cummins is a very old style lecturer. No slides, no use of OWL. When it was brought to her attention that MySocLab wasn't working, she didn't know how to fix it and left it non-functional all year. She gets off topic very easily. She picked on the one male in class for his opinion, which at a women's college was annoying.

Helene Cummins was a great prof! Her teaching style is different from other university classes, you require to take good notes in class to do well one exams. Her lectures involved a lot of stories but that made it easier to remember concepts if listen to stories. Soclab online was a huge help for exams and I really loved the course. She's so sweet

Horrible teacher. No slides used. Rambles off topic a lot and is very hard to follow. Her exams are very hard and I found her teaching style very unorganized. Would never take her class again.

Does not make eye contact with students while lecturing (stares at ceiling or walls), has a tendancy to go off topic, when you ask a question you get an ambiguous answer (never answers questions), does not give breaks during a 3 hour lecture, and does not use WebCT. Super sweet lady, but her lecturing skills really need some fine tuning.

Comment:

Helene is sweet, but could definately improve her lecturing style. She stares at the ceiling in between reading off of her notes. She also uses the class as a platform for her feminist agenda. We spend a lot of time watching sensationalist films, & her personal stories are cute but way too frequent. Its a very detailed course.

Professor Cummins is very friendly and willing to help and tries to make class enjoyable. She is a little outdated in some of the information she presents though--some of her statistics are old and not relevant anymore. Doesn't use PP, and tends to discuss her personal life a little too much. Exams were super easy but unclear expectations for essay

She is very good, although her tests are tough. She picks the questions you would normally pay the least attention to. Very tricky tests. Overall, she teachers very well and interesting; gives a lot of involving personal examples. Everyday she wears a new outfit! Great feminist!

Her exams: expects you to know everything(from lecture,movies and text, even small details). That's a LOT of information! Personally, I think the exams are unfair and don't reflect whether or not I understand the concepts in Sociology, because of that I wouldn't take a course with her again. She is nice and intelligent, though.Exams are ridiculous

She os a really nice lady. She has a lot od personal stories to go along with her lectures. Her tests were kind of tricky and didn't really listen when the class said seom questions were infair. Overall she was an awesome Prof and I recommend taking a course taught by her.

SHe took her lectures stright from the book but made her exams really tricky and whould not hear from us when we thought some quesitns were unfair. Classes were intresitnh though when there was alot of antidotal stores over all thoug its not the end of the world if you miss many of her classes
