Comment:
One of the best profs I had in my first year. I took his 2nd year English course thinking it would be over my head, and ended up having a great time and learning a lot. I had to work hard for my marks, and he is a hard marker, but I enjoyed almost every reading and personally took a lot away from what he taught. Also very understanding/personable!

He is an extremely hard marker. If he does not agree with the point you are making, you are wrong. He provides zero insight as to where you can improve. He is very condescending. Not a fan.. AVOID HIM

Uses words that just don't make sense a lot of the time. Stories he reads in class aren't always interesting and is an extremely difficult marker.

Hands down the best professor (and teacher) I have ever had. He pushed me, and yes I worked, to improve. If you are not looking to become a better writer, and overal student then why bother with university? If you can take any class with Dr. Wyile I highly recommend it!

Herb was my favourite professor throughout my time at Acadia. The required reading was always interesting, especially in upper level courses. You do have to work hard, but if you put forth the effort he will go above and beyond to help you in whatever way he can. Very friendly with a genuine interest in the subject matter. Great professor.

his comments were helpful, encouraging and not at all critical - support your thesis using the text and there really isn't much he can do to argue against you, especially in a course that celebrates individual interpretation. Essay advice - stay within the word limit; you can have a sparkling thesis but he won't be afraid to knock off 10%

Reading through comments on Herb made me realize that opinions are so relative. I was a good, interested English student and thoroughly enjoyed his classes (I even registered for a class I knew nothing about because he was the prof). He has a great sense of humour; you just need to be in the right place to enjoy it. Willing to work? You'll love him

He is brutally opinionated...if he doesn't agree with you you're wrong. He is probably the most anal marker too, one mistake can cost you a good 20%. He also assigns way too much work and reading and expects too much from his students. Don't take this course.

Great prof. A little dull by times, but picks material you might actually read on your own. Actually remembers you outside class, too!

Not the most energized course I have ever taken. Some people complain about his in-class discussion style, however I consider it essential to the fine arts. Though he has a passion for local writers, he is not bound by them. His marking is tough, yet fair. In-class stuff not always related to exam.

Dr. Wyile is incredibly dull (poor guy.) I think he means well, but he is extremely unapproachable, and sometimes i feel like he thinks his students are children (way too much class discussion, not enough lectures). He's ok, but VERY uninspiring.

Not a really good prof. He doesn't give instructions clearly at all. Also he runs his classroom like a high school class..ahhhhh hello we are paying to go here, we should be allowed to go ****when we want to, and not have to ask for permission.

He was a good prof and gives background info to the literary works that he assigns.Although if he has an opinion on something don't try to argue against it because instead of proving your argument you are actually arguing with him and guess who wins-not u

Hmm... a very average professor. My opinion of him changes daily, but he seems to be decent. Id take another course, and he's certainly better than some.
