Comment:
After many years studying Japanese in college, graduate school, professional institutions, and in Japan, I can honestly say that Sekino Sensei is the best, most dedicated and caring teacher that I've ever had. I spent more time studying for her class than all other classes combined. But with time and with her guidance, I became fluent.

Sekino-Sensei is the best Japanese teacher I've ever had. She's totally devoted to her students, and makes classes fun and comprehensible. She expects a lot from her students, but there's no other way to learn Japanese!!

Sekino-sensei is one of the best professors since she makes an extremely difficult subject comprehensible. I spent more time studying for her class (five semesters!) than for all other classes combined. Japanese classes at graduate schools in the U.S. and in Japan were much easier.

Prof. Sekino expects nothing less than complete devotion to Japanese. There is TONS of work in this class- quizzes, homework, reading, speeches, essays, and for her video class, tons of outside work watching all Japanese movies. She is a terrifying woman. You will learn, but you absolutely need to do your work. She is very willing to offer you help

The amount of work, the level of quality she expects from you, and her energy are all amazing (we joked that she was probably a cyborg). If you have issues daily hw or languages aren't your bag, prepare to WORK. I thought it was easy, but a lot didn't. Still, your classmates become your friends quickly -- like war buddies :D

I was a student of Sekino-sensei for three years. Her classes are pretty difficult and require A LOT of work, with homework every night and frequent quizzes. However, if you do all that's expected of you, you will learn a lot. You just have to make sure to do all your work and kiss up so you don't end up on her bad side (she can be quite harsh!).

She is very sweet, but very intense. She does play favorites some-- but you become her favorite by talking to her out of class and proving your interest in the subject. If you need help she's more than willing to provide it. Just be willing to work your heiny off.

Too much work. I spend more time working for this class and in this class than any other. She is tough, plays favorites, and doesn't always grade fairly. You learn alot of Japanese, but be prepared to spend hours every day working for your grade. She's actually nice when you know her out of class.

Very nice person, but her English is only so-so. It is a very hard class, many in the intro had already had some Japanese.
