Good. He puts in effort, so much better than other professors I've had. Goes through material pretty quickly. Slides are quite condensed and packed, so it's hard to follow along calculations made, sometimes. READ THE ZUMDAHL TEXTBOOK (Chemical Principles) CUZ IT CLARIFIES EVERYTHING. Content is not hard. Calculations based class. Nice dude. Ez cred

Definitely not the best prof in SFU, but not the worst. Hogan lacks quite a bit in being able to explain certain concepts to his students, and this is where most will find difficulty with him. That being said, his lecture slides generally have everything to pass but it will need effort outside of class. Passable, but you'll need to be self-reliant.

Spends a lot of time talking about his own life issues such as speeding tickets, but at least it counters the dry material that is normally taught in this course. Questions on his exams come from variations of those on his lecture slides, so this made the exams fairly moderate in difficultly. The final wasn't that much harder than the midterm.

Dr. Yu as a professor AND human being: not so great. He spends a lot of time in class rambling and this semester it was mostly complaining about his speeding tickets. His exams are almost the exact same as his lecture notes and lab questions. He ends class 1 month early though, so less material compared to other 215 profs.

Expect the unexpected, whatever he says will be on the exam will not be on the exam, I did every single question from the textbook for the corresponding chapters, but they did not help, the guy pulls his questions from some ancient chinese chemistry book, final was literally hardest thing ever, 45% of the class failed the midterm, 60% failed final

He doesn't provide any study materials other than LONCAPA which sucks. Final was a lot harder than the midterm and a lot of students felt unprepared for it. Mandatory iclicker questions every lecture. One thing to keep in mind is that he ends his course a month early, so the final is around end of March.

Like a lot of students, I found myself enjoying class. Dr. Yu has a thick accent, but after the first few lectures, you'll find yourself being able to understand him with no problem. I never felt distracted during his lectures because he was engaging and often cracked jokes. The midterm was decent, but I found the final to be quite difficult.

I would say Yu is very average. Not completely useless as a teacher (iClickers were used well), but not overly interested in the success of his students. Did not provide additional study resources beyond LONCAPA and kept our midterms, as if we would be stealing chemistry itself if we had them in hand. 42 students got 90+ on MT, final was brutal.

Although not great, Hogan is definitely not a terrible prof. He has a thick chinese accent, which just takes getting used to. This is a hard course, and will be no matter who is teaching it. There is lots of homework (lon capa), and 1 midterm, which was easy (i got an A). Beware of the final though, it is 60% and was much harder than the midterm

Prof definitely knows his stuff, but he isn't the best when it comes to explaining things. I went to his class primarily for iclickers, never understood anything during his lectures. Midterm was easy, final was way harder but fair. Make sure you know how to do every loncapa problem and every iclicker in his lecture slides. Slightly harder than 121.

prof, with heavy chinese accent from shandong province. loncapa is annoying, due every week, and complicated data and really hard questions. Only 1 midterm, is quite easy. However, final worth 60%, is extremely BRUTAL!! 25 MULTIPLE CHOICES, 4 big written, so many people failed. he is not clear at explaining things, study hard yourself!

Dr Yu is always willing to give extra help, even outside of office hours. He has some accent but imo it's not too bad. His lecture's are clear and logical, and he's good at telling jokes. Tests are easy as long as you study for them. Don't be too intimidated if the clicker questions get tricky, as they don't worth much but they are good practice.

THICK accent, makes it difficult to understand material sometimes. Jokes a lot during class, pretty nice guy and very honest, will tell you straight up what he expects. Makes you work for your grade, but considerably a fair marker during exams. Analytical is just a headache (labs, lon-capa) I don't know if having another prof would make it better

I found Dr. Yu to be a funny guy, but I did not learn much from his lectures, he overcomplicated things for me, and I found it hard to concentrate. Midterm was easy, final was brutal. Do every relevant textbook question, that the only way to pass this class. If you can wait for another chem 122 prof, I would recommend it.

I do not recommend him at all. He's not useful at all. I had to learn on my own. He only lectures maybe 30 mins. He reviews for 10 mins by saying exactly the same thing. Waste of time. And waste 10 mins on 2-3 iclicker questions. He's explanations were not clear at all. Really hated going to the class. Had to sit in for iclicker.

In spite of the other ratings here, I think Hogan is one of the good professors at SFU. He is a little difficult to understand, but he makes up for it by keeping the class interesting. Exams were on the easy side. Attendance is marked (via iClicker). Recommended!
