Class was not difficult, he just royally screwed up the syllabus and we had no clue when anything was due. I personally couldn't stand to be in the same room with the man because he made me feel that my opinions were wrong and didn't matter (mostly because they were different from his own). I can't help it if I'm not anti-confederate.

I really liked how he explained the relationship between Beaumont Hamel and the creation of Memorial University (and I learned some family history here as a bonus!) He certainly has done his research and he's good at sharing it with his students. We also got to research the history of education in our home communities. Great prof!

every single time i suspected i might like this man, he did something to prove these suspicions wrong. Uses class time to push forth his own ideologies and conspiracy theories. Taught very little about Social Studies. Would never take this guy again. Not only hates Canada, but hates females, too, i suspect

Fitz is an awesome prof! He is a prof who can actually teach and he is extremely knowledgeable about the subject material. If you are in the market for a good history course and an excellent professor and you have an interest in either Newfoundland or Education, TAKE THIS COURSE. He also has a great sense of humour and is a kinda easy on the eyes;)

By far the most articulate, informed, and enjoyable teacher I've had at MUN. He's got it together and delivers really interesting illustrated lectures, and really gets you thinking. He marks fairly and even proofread my essay and made suggestions as to how to improve my research and writing. Take any course with this guy, you won't regret it.

I think Dr. Fitz is a very good professor, and showed remarkable tolerance for certain people in class who thought they were God's gift to creation. Honestly, the man marked fairly, used humour effectively and had all the time in the world for students. What else do the students who diss. him want? A free degree? Fitz is worth the cash.

The most pompous, arrogant, and phony professor I've ever had the misfortune to meet, I can't imagine taking another class with him. He is not just not a nice person, he is an incompetent teacher. I never felt listened to in class, never got any feedback for work, and I certainly didn't learn anything new from his rambling lectures or bad jokes.

FitzGerald drives me crazy. I like confederation, therefore, my opinion counts for nothing! He screwed up the course outline, which screwed up everybody's schedules...and while his majesty apologized for this,I'm still angry. He might be an okay marker, but I would rather be graded with brutality than sit through another Viagra Dance.

A very fair and very animated professor who knows his stuff and enjoys deviating from the script/text, and making his classes interactive and based more on classroom discussion. This is good, but there should be more of balance with actual substantive work. Has a quirky sense of humor, but sometimes goes a little too far with it. Very democratic.
