It was interesting class, but hard to take notes. He speaks very fast and doesn't use powerpoint, so it would be better to attend lectures! Essays are long and demand hard work.

If you do 50% of the readings, listen to all the lectures and participate in conference, you will be fine. Good course altogether with very interesting material. Meadwell is incredibly intelligent- be warned though, he is also VERY hard to reach, and no matter how long or urgent your e-mails are, do not expect more than a one word response.

His lectures are recorded and don't include slides, so physical attendance isn't important. As for the readings--I pulled a B- in the course by reading the intro and conclusion of most readings, skimming the middle, and taking notes on them in conferences. Obviously do more than that if you want a higher grade. And go to conferences. They're useful

pay attention to this class. this is a pre req for so many courses in poli sci. if you don't understand concepts in this class you will not do well in 300-400 levels after. it is essential and meadwell is great for this class. he feels comfortable lecturing but can get a bit dull at times. don't bother going to class, recordings of lectures r thre

Nice, funny professor who is incredibly knowledgeable and interested in what he teaches. The readings can be long and dense but they are necessary in order to do well in the class. Exams are straightforward and he gives you the exam topics and essay questions beforehand.

Very interesting topic. Prof Meadwell gives his lecture in a very structured manner, although the said structure tends to jump back and forth a little. Interesting and insightful, you're sure to come out of the course a little more wise about European politics. Definitely a good foundation for future poli classes I believe

Great professor! He's the exam review master! Truly passionate about his class and lecturing, which shines through. A bit unstructured, but not unbearably so. The textbook readings can be skimmed as they are similar to his lectures, but the other ones have to be read thoroughly. Also, he gives lecture and reading notes to prepare you for his exams.

I absolutely loved this class. It inspired me to major in Political Science. The lectures are long and information-packed. Important to attend. Sometimes it felt disorganized. However, Meadwell often repeats and summarizes previous information. Fair grader, but a lot of reading. If you put the effort in, you can get a good grade.

POLI212 is honestly a great class, lectures are long but he can be pretty funny and the material is really interesting. Sometimes disorganized. The main reason lectures are long is because he summarizes the previous lecture for the first 10-20 min. The paper was my favourite part, to be honest.

I had Prof. Meadwell back in 2001-2003, I guess he doesn't change and like good wine becomes better and better! Superb teaching and a lot of personal class. I did some research work for him as well during one summer, lovely experience. If you ever read this Mr. Meadwell, greetings from Russia)

A genius. remarkable how smart one person can be. Very clear, extremely knowledgeable. LOTS of material/readings but his exams are very very fair and he gives a very helpful and thorough review out beforehand. HIGHLY recommend

He knows what he is talking about however his lectures are incredibly dry and even listening to the recordings are hard cause its just so easy to drift off. Pretty dull class imo, but still interesting and helpful for poli sci students
