Ian is a dyed in the wool ideologue, who has no genuine interest in gender. He point-blank said he just isn't interested in even reading about the biology. His class comes from the "everything is a man's fault" school of feminism, without any attempt to put down the "feminist lens". For Ian, education *is* indoctrination.

I really liked Nicolson mostly because we like the same hockey team and he's very down to earth & easy to talk too. The course was very interesting, but it definitely requires a lot of work. He had two exams, a paper, & participation-exams are tough and require A LOT of studying. He is willing to help you prepare though during his office hours.

I had Ian for personality psych this year and I think he is a great prof, mostly because of his captivating approach and interesting classes. He can articulate his lectures very well and is a fair minded man. When we were studying early theorists, he always had an in class activity that expanded our understanding. Exams were hard and worth a lot..

Very eager to help & promotes this. Great lecturer, I was inspired by him & learnt how to articulate better. I found the mid-term easy & fun but the final exam hard with ill-preparation in regard to its content. He is a hard marker, but makes the content very interesting.

Take History of Psyc, he is well versed and a great lecturer. There is a lot of reading and he expects competent writing, but if you have any interest to begin with, you'll be fine.

Amazing Professor. Knows his material off by heart. A little biased in terms of Psychoanalysis, but i can deal because it fascinates me. He picks really interesting material which is super relevant to his topic, probably the best prof at St. Thomas hands down.

Good prof. Lectures are organized, informative and understandable. Fair marker and really knows his stuff. Definately tries to show biases and criticisms within the psychology community which most profs would not attempt to do.

My favourite class in all of university! This course changed my life and the way I think about psychiatry, psychology and society. He knows what he is talking about and really inspires students to think critically. He's not the easiest marker but work and you'll be alright.

Ok lecturer - class and assignments a little on the boring side. had the biggest problem with his need for a 15% attendence mark (it's university, not high school)...I needed to go to a national competition and he made me feel like my choice to miss class and attend with my team was a predictor of my poor priorities as a student.

Comment:
Psych students can learn a lot from Dr Nicholson. He puts the "facts" of psychology in a critical and historical perspective so we can add a little humility to our "science," and perhaps a little humanity too.
