If you go to class, and take time to understand the concepts you will pass. If you are a computer science major you should take this professor, she not only pushes you to become a better programmer but does care that you pass her class.

One of the Hardest classes I've ever taken. If you want an A dont take this class. But this class really prepares you and makes you a better programmer. We were not allowed to use laptops. this kinda annoyed me because duh its a comp sci class. The tests combined are 60% of your grade and you are expected to hand write code. Be ready to be stressed

For this class you need to know your stuff. You do okay and the labs and assignments but can completely fail your exam. I wish she could've done more coding with us as a class, that may have helped for the exams.

Zimand is an okay teacher, but goes about teaching the wrong way. She makes students feel stupid and is super intimidating. However, if you're a computer science major she'll push you, BUT if you're not (like i was) don't do it to yourself.

I don't get why she gets such a bad rep. Professor Zimand has turned me into a better programmer and I could not have been more thankful for her to push me. If you work hard on the assignments and pay attention, you will get what you desire in that class. Definitely recommend her.

On the very first day of class students are given an assessment for Cosc 236 in fall 2017 if students do not good at it meaning score below 4 out to 10 she recommend to drop the class and sign up for a preparatory course

The class entails of 4 assignments, 2 exam plus the final, labs that are graded on completion. There are pop quizzes that does not actually count toward the final grade. If you have no programming experience, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I was one of the lucky one to have actually pass the class with no formal programming experience. I recommend her!

Anybody on here that is whining about her shouldn't be a computer science major. Hands down the best professor I have ever had. If you care about learning the material and want to be a better programmer take her. If you participate and are actually a good student she will like you. Can't recommend her enough.

One of the worst professors I had in life. She thinks there are only 3-4 students in the entire class who are experts and does not care about others. I taught myself every single thing. I got nightmares about this class every night. She just brags that she has been in this field since ages but can do nothing to teach us! AVOID HER !GOODLUCK

Knows what she is talking about, but goes about teaching the wrong way. Belittles and beats down her students. It's almost good that she is so intimidating so you are forced to do well. But as for actually enjoying the class, I would recommend another professor. Zimand can be a bit much.

Excellent teacher. Attendance is mandatory, and like many other COSC professors at TU laptops aren't allowed in lecture (for notes) and tests involve writing out code by hand. Group projects are graded critically, and you'll really regret leaving them until the last minute. I learned a lot and would recommend her to anyone who is serious about CS.

One of the best professors I've had, she knows the material and is an amazing lecturer. If you participate in class she will definitely take a liking to you and be willing to help you out. Definitely plan on taking her for 237.

Take her for 237 if you actually care about learning the language and not just getting your credit. She is a very good teacher, teaches efficient coding practices. Pop quizes, but labs and quizes are only 10% combined, so they don't matter. Gives mock tests so you know whats on the real test. Put in decent effort and you do well and learn a lot

COSC is a hard major in general but she is a great professor. I took 236 with another professor and during review of 237 I was learning new things! She's pretty detailed in her lectures. She's strict about your code looking clean but that's just typical. People complaining about her really shouldn't be in the major to begin with & I'm only a minor!

Without a doubt she is a tough professor. However she really does know her stuff. My main complaints are that she tends to make the class harder than it needs to be. She really wants it done HER way and the most efficient way. Also make sure your code is READABLE. Her lectures are mostly her just talking at you and its hard to pay attention.

She is very good at lecturing the material. The only reason people failed was because they were on their phone the whole time or they skipped class. She is very picky about writing neat and efficient code, so she is good at filtering out the week ones. The course is tough in general. Don't take her unless you are a COSC major. Textbook not needed.

She is very blunt about whether you should be a comp sci major or not, and usually your grade will reflect that. Take her if you are a comp science major, she post all notes and programs online. Attendance is required though, and you can only miss 2 classes before it starts affecting your grade considerably.

She is a good professor but she is not for everybody. If you're a computer Science major definitely take her for both COSC 236 and COSC 237. If you have 0 experience in programming don't take her, you are going to fail! If you didn't have her for COSC 236 and you got below a B+, you will have to work really hard to survive.
