A little intimidating at first, but you realize she's a great prof. Ira is very funny and makes class interesting. Also, her English is great, so if students can't grasp a concept, she'll usually explain in English and make things crystal clear. As well, we often got out of the night class early because she wanted to get home ;) Amazing lady!

Somebody clone her!!!! She has a class and knowledge! Funny, interesting, passionate! Real European and speaks over 6 languages! Very FASCINATING!!! I ADORE HER! What more could you look for in a professor?!?!

She is the best prof ever!!! Very passionate, helpful and outgoing and very straightforward and not pretentious! HONEST and very REAL!!! She is just as great outside the class as she is inside the classroom. Assists students very much! Way to BE! All power to you IRA! No wonder she is the chair of the department! Definitely the BEST!

Passionate about what she teaches, and always energetic to teach stdudents about France. But that turned out to be a negative thing; because she seemed to just be preaching about 'her region' of the mediterannean and why it was the best. Not teaching about things we might actually learn something useful about.

Generally enjoyable. Very feminist and will point out the feminist angle on many subjects even if it doesn’t have any direct bearing on the subject at hand. Beyond that, interesting and filled with stories she’s always willing to share.

Dr. Ashcroft is probably one of the most brilliant (and eccentric) people I have ever met in my life. She knows here stuff inside out and is passionate about what she teaches ... most of the time. :) Don't take translation - she hates it - but definitely take the mystery novel course (le polar.)

Helped me out when I was unexpectedly unable to write my exam so I wouldn't have to petition. Never been so happy to write an exam in my life! Class wise she is - very funny, to the point, and easy to listen to. Out of class she is A+!

She is MAGNIFIQUE as the department chair - always honest, compassionate, and really goal-oriented and asks the same of her students. She's always been helpful with direction, plans, and especially exchanges to Europe. Definitely takes the time to make sure things are right - way to go, Ira!

It's funny she comes off really Francaise in her attitude (the whole smoke-in-hand thing, her robust attitude!!) but she's Russian. She's so outgoing I love her. As the chair of the department - she's really helpful. Make sure you don't get standard answers from her & explore all your options. Voila
