Dr. Milne is a great professor at Longwood. His class was the first sociology class I took at Longwood. It was an winter intercession so it was faced paced. There was a lot of reading (to be exact the entire book), discussions every module, a quiz every module, 2 tests, and 2 essays. He was a fair grader. Take notes and you'll pass.

Literally my favorite professor ever. Im not a sociology major, but Milne is AMAZING. Does take attendance seriously, but his classes are interesting and open for discussion!!!

Dr. Milne knows a LOT about sociology, and has a great sense of humor. There were no tests, just two papers and a group project done in-class. Beware the online quizzes. They are strictly timed and there's several due every week. The D I got was my fault, not his, but he grades tough and more than one LU student has had to retake a class from him.

Good teacher, Great guy. if you're not a soc major you may not appreciate his "toughness" he wants people to really learn the information that is why he is so tough. i had the pleasure of him being my academic adviser, and i would not have made it past sophomore year without him pushing and guiding me to success. you have to work for it.

This was Dr. Milne's first time teaching this particular course, so it was a learning experience for both him and us. It was a unique format because you actually conduct and design research during the class period. This is an amazing and unique opportunity to get hands on experience.

He locks the door right when class starts & laughs at students who arrived even 1 minute late - marking them absent. He will fail you for absences even if you are doing just fine in the class. Also you are forced to do partner papers the entire semester which he grades harshly. Other than that the Canvas quizzes & exams are easy enough.

There were only four exams throughout the semester and all of them were group exams so they were super easy. You had weekly quizzes on the chapters in the text book but they were online open notes and open people. He is very animated especially at 8am in the morning and was a very easy grader. He's extremely helpful and I definitely recommend him.

Tries really hard to be the cool, funny professor. Cool guy, but for tests, etc. he doe snot ever give clear direction on what you are supposed to be doing and how he grades. I would not take him again, treats a 101-level class as if it were a 400, and despite being a cool dude, is just not a great professor. I got an A, but damn that class sucked.

Can be pompous at times. Gave a student a zero for an assignment that he said they would not have to attend (scheduling conflict)for an outside of normal class time event. Also, Milne never responds to email. Talk to him in person if you want a response to a question, and make sure to constantly follow up, he doesn't always stay true to his word.

Dr. Milne is so great at making class interesting! Loved him and his class. Gives lots of good grades for participation, although test are pretty hard. But if you keep up with the reading you should be fine.

Prof Milne is a great teacher. His classes are interesting. I like the fact that you choose your assignments for the class, I suggest the mini papers and a chapter discussion. He is easy to meet with and talk to. He truly cares about the students and the school. If you need to understand something about Longwood go see him! Great class

If you like a teacher who doesn't openly express favoritism, contradict everything taught in class, speak over you when you present, or give back graded assignments in a timely manner I would not suggest this teacher. If you like sports or play sports however you will really enjoy him.

Jake is the best professor i have ever had at Longwood. He truly cares about his students and their well-being. He makes learning fun. I wish I could have him for every class. His classes are the only ones I am actually excited to go to. He knows how to teach and still make it fun and interesting. Best professor at Longwood by far!
