Not funny, treats us like high schoolers, is not clear AT ALL about expectations, talks down to students, and does not use common sense. Never talked about anything worthwhile in class, just listened to her stories about airport security. Not a strong leader, as a good teacher should be. I have no respect for this woman.

Seems like everyone who has complaints is only complaining about writing papers. If you don't want to write papers, leave college. This class was NOT hard, and she was a very funny and helpful professor. As long as you do well on the papers, you will be fine (and they're not hard).

f'ing ****. **** ****. hates girls. writing was never difficult for me until i had this class. the only grades we have a papers & if you do bad on them, then you are screwed. she has no real grading system.. she just grades you by how much she likes you as a person or student. if you're looking for an easy professor/class, dont look here.

Ms. Plate formerly was a high school teacher, a fact that becomes obvious to her college students as soon as they get to class on the first day - not only does she run class it's high school, but she talks down to her students as if they still were high schoolers. Her instructions for assignments are vague at best.

The class is BS. Your grades is a paper and the final. It's research and writing but we're reading short stories and poetry. The night before things are due she sends an email telling us what she wants in class the next day. A person previously told me that she was useless and I didn't believe them. Now I do.

Don't do it. She is a horrible person. Standards are ridiculously high. Does not explain explain assignments clearly st all. Approved my topic at the beginning of the semester and told me it was inappropriate on the last day of class. Waits til the night before assignments are due to post them.

Best teacher I've had at Longwood! She doesn't give too much work, and she's very helpful when you need assistance on papers. She has a good sense of humor and she's nice, too. Definitely get her if you're taking 150!

It's FRESHMEN ENGLISH.. she makes it so hard! Our first assignment was a TEN PAGE PAPER. I cited something incorrectly, and got a ZERO on a paper. She wouldn't give me a second chance or anything.
