Great professor who knows what he is talking about, he as a lot of experience in the field. Goes over MTP's in class and emphasis points about them and tells you if something is going to be on the test. Attending class in not necessary to do well. If you know whats in the text book, you know what's on the test.

Dr. Barton is a very intelligent, approachable teacher. We did not use the books in class, but it is crucial to read them independently if you want to pass. We only had 4 tests plus one research paper; no midterm or final. Labs are fun, includes a brain dissection.

I've taken a few courses with Dr. Barton. Definitely a University style prof. Very organized and always on time. Very knowledgeable, which tends to hold my attention more. Tests and papers are marked fairly. Both his psych 1100 and 1200 courses rely heavily on the text for test material. Would recommend.

His class is a typical 1st year class,BUT he does a top 20 before his test, which reviews 20 questions that you need to know. Also the labs are fun,and the lowest mark from the test is worth only 10%.

I have no complaints about this class. Interesting subject and great teacher!!! James knows his stuff!! It may be a little challenge at first due to the bio jargon, but it is a health psychology course. It's not difficult to do well in this course. People who complain probably didn't put in any effort.

I found his class to be really boring. Also his notes don't always correspond to the text so it can be really hard trying to figure out what to study. I probably wouldn't take another class with him if I could avoid it!

I'm glad I had Barton this semester. He sometimes went over the subject matter quickly, but he revisited each chapter a couple times to make sure you knew what would be on the tests. The tests are fairly easy if you listen and read the textbook. Very knowledgable and wants everyone to do well.

Wasn't sure about Dr. Barton at first. Has a bit of a harsh demeanor. Will sometimes go over things very quickly. If you listen closely and take notes you will do fine in his class. Most of the tests are from the text, but he always ads a few things which weren't in the book. Tests are easy and tricky at the same time. Nice guy in the end.

Hummm, read the text...easy to read text. all m/c tests (only 3), 1 oral presentation, 1 paper. He goes off topic a lot however, really points out the key points to know on an exam. Learned lots in the class mostly from the text...no need to attend classes

Overall, he is a good prof and speaks alot from the field itself. If you are interested he will pick up on that. The material was interesting so that will keep you going. If you show up to the last class he will tell you what the answer to the first question on the final is.

Definetely a university style prof. Read the textbook and study and you'll do fine on the 100 MC tests. Dr. Barton is not the most personable professor at Douglas, but you will learn from him, especially if you put forth the effort.

he is a good teacher, tests are easy as long as you study. gives away lots of hints for tests during class, however his notes can be all over the place. Read chapters, do review book and go over his pretests and you'll do good!

Great teacher if you are looking to go to university as he speaks quickly and uses a lot of technical jargon. He is not an interesting lecturer, but his notes are well prepared and related to the text. His tests are a little tricky and again use very technical language. Overall, I will not be taking another class with this teacher.

Nice enough guy, but his exams are difficult and cover a lot of information. Know everything! Classes are dreadfully boring and he gives no clear directions on what he wants for a research paper. Presentations are a big waste of time and mean you can leave part way through class every time.
