He fell asleep during a movie he put on for my class, he also had very long lectures and it was extremely difficult to take notes. He was quick to answer emails

Clarke is fantastic, he really cares about the success of his students. His class is easy to get an A in if you do the work - a paper proposal, 10 page research paper, oral presentation, on paper topic, and two essay format tests. Try to get the front left corner (from a seated students perspective) on the first day of class to get the best topic.

I am not much of a history fan, but Clarke is open to everyone. very personal, he likes smaller classes. he talks very fast and doesn't leave powerpoint slides up long. fast paced course. textbook isn't really necessary. he's a very approachable guy - like Santa. Rarely uses entire lecture time. He understands that you have a life outside his class

Overall a really great professor. Personally, I am not a history fan and he was able to teach it in a way that is easy to understand. He offers lots of extra credit throughout the semester. There's an essay midterm and final and a research paper along with a presentation. Totally recommend him!

James Clarke is a great teacher! Comes across as tough and opinionated but is a great guy. There is a midterm and final but in essay format and he gives the class the topics ahead of time. Gives plenty of extra credit assignments but otherwise no homework besides one paper and a presentation. Highly recommend!!

Very, very easy teacher. Breeze of a class. Sit down and listen to him talk for the entire class, other than student presentations. Take notes on your computer whenever you want to. 2 tests and a paper/presentation. Not hard at all. Nice, sorta funny, old knowledgable guy. Take this class.

Clarke really is into history and knows everything. We never were quizzed and he assigned readings but I never bought the book. Don't buy the book, you will never use it. There's a huge presentationpaper near the middle towards the end of the semester but you chose your topic like the second day of class. Clarke's really easy.

He wants you to do well. If you go to him for help and want a good grade in the class you will receive one. The only required work is a project and three tests. Tests take 20 minutes and then you can leave. Great teacher for people who don't like history. Sit in class and listen to him and you may find it interesting. Would take him again!!!

Professor Clarke is extremely knowledgeable of his subject matter, and does a superb job of articulating this information to the students. I had no prior interest in American History, but after I took his class, his passion for the subject motivated me to learn as much as I could. I highly recommend taking his class, as he cares about his students.

Don't know if Clarke is going to be here next semester but he was by far my favorite professor. Really enjoyed his job and although the class got boring sometimes, it is really easy. 1 short midterm and short final with 1 8 page paper. Easy workload. If you can take him do it, you won't regret it. Don't buy the textbook.

This professor is terrible. He does not know anything about history and just lectures about nothing for 3 hours. He says "you know" more than anything because honestly he doesnt know what else to say. He is an embarressment to ramapo and should have been fired years ago. I could teach a better history class than this clown

Extremely boring because he just lectures from his notes and does not facilitate class discussions. However, there is minimal work because there is one midterm and one final and he gives you the essay question beforehand. There is also a project and a paper, but as long as you go to class and do the work theres no reason why you cannot get an A

Easy for a gen-ed history course. Half of the semester he lectures class, then students teach the second with a presentation and 10 page paper. Only two tests. Its recommended you take notes, but not required. Overall easy going guy, but he knows his facts; don't mess up during the tests or paper. He never made us use the textbook.

This review is from the p.o.v. of someone who has no interest in political history, so my opinion may differ from someone who enjoys the subject. Anyway, Professor Clarke is easy going and grades fairly. There isn't much work in the class aside from a project and two tests, but its very dull and you only learn from other student's presentations.

Prof. Clarke is no-nonsense, lets you know what he wants from day one, and is a really easy-going guy. He is very understanding for students with disabilities and very willing to work with you as long as you are willing to work. Take him if you want to take a good grade but expect to have to do SOME minimal work. It IS college.
