This guy wants you to use your brain, crazy right?! Makes jokes about everything. Makes you question your own way of thinking constantly.

Big Jim is definitely an interesting character. He is very smart but also a little strange. He had our class write one paper a week. Twice during the semester he gave individual counseling sessions during class time to mention what we needed to improve on. His class definitely felt like more of a philosophy class than a writing class at times.

This guy is funny and smart, but his classes are very long (3 hours straight with only a 20 min break) and it is mostly lecture based. Be prepared to use your books that are required for this class, you will need it! Also, he is a tough grader, so if you don't follow the outline he gives in the beginning of the semester your screwed.

Professor Cochran, otherwise known as "Big Jim", is quite the character. I was taken back by his humor and sarcasm as they are quite vulgar and dry. His lectures are filled with him mindlessly rambling about nothing pertaining to the class. Weekly essays are based on the "debates" you will have in class with peers. This class was nearly unbearable!

Class is composed of debates about random stuff, he wants his students to argue among themselves, has a sense of humor only a few understand. Moderate work and essays. I disliked him though.

Some of the things he talks about is mostly a riddle. Hard to understand unless you really pay attention to what he say.

I hated this class with a burning passion. He rants on for 3 hours about useless things that have nothing to do with the class. I learned nothing; waste of my time. At the beginning of the course he lefts you choose how many papers to write. He also gives you an outline of how to write a paper; if you dont follow that outline you will not get an A.

The course is debates in class and writing about it. The students choose all of the topics too. He will make you see things from a different perspective. You wont always agree with him and you dont have to. If you dont agree with his side for a topic, you dont have to support it and he will still give you a good grade if you deserve it.

Great professor! He'll help you with your work, but in the end, you have to study your topics, and do the work yourself. You'll have a good time in his class if you engage in the arguments. The point of his class is to learn critical thinking skills, which is more important in college writing than the semantics of grammar he'll also teach you.

"Jimbo" Is one of my favorite professors at CCP!! He is very witty and sarcastic but overall a funny easy going guy. You will learn a lot in his class, he likes to challenge his students with the topics he picks to write about, but is pretty clear with his expectations. He is also helpful when you're confused. I am overall a better writer now!

While he's a reasonably nice guy, I didn't find I was well-suited for his teaching style and his feedback, or lack there of, was mediocre at best. Unfortunately, I don't feel this course has prepared me for future English courses, I received passing marks for papers I didn't even feel deserved them.

When I first met Big Jim I was a little taken aback by his personality ( and sarcasm). Turned out to be so cool! Before having him I thought I was a great writer. He made me an EXCELLENT writer! I now know how to construct academic pieces of writing all thanks to him! Took Eng 101 after him & was ahead of my entire class. I passed with an A !

This course helps you to become a better writer. Although I didnt understand nor like Big Jim's teaching style at first, i learned to really appreciate and like it after a few of classes. He is super smart and jokes a lot but dont take offense to his jokes. In the end you will be greatly prepared for 102 after his class

The class was somewhat challenging. He likes for his students to use their critical thinking. You will be handing in essays on a weekly bases. At first I struggled with his teaching method but later appreciated it in my Eng 102 class. He does have a quirky sense of humor. I would say his class is a great primer class for Eng 102.
