Comment:

Sut is a very inspirational professor. This class was definitely one of the best I have ever taken. The only thing that poses a challenge is the self-accountability of watching the video lectures and online quizzes. I had a hard time keeping up with them, and as a result got a lower grade than I definitely could have gotten. Overall, great class.

Sut Jhally has a lot of knowledge and is a great lecturer. The class is online so you have to watch the lectures yourself, so make sure you are disciplined. It's an easy B+/A if you listen to the lectures. There are quizzes about twice a week but are easy.

All the material in this class is based off of readings books by authors with no credibility and HBO documentaries. The fact that this is considered a class is remarkable. Easy pass/fail if you need credits though

If you want a class that challenges the way you think and actually teaches you things, take this class. Sut is so intelligent and really makes you think critically about so many things. The online lectures are super interesting, just take good notes because all test questions are from lectures. About 2 short online quizzes a week and 3 exams.

Sut Jhally is a great lecturer and one of my favorites at UMASS. COMM MVP. His online classes were easy enough, with a handful of memorable quotes and engaging moments. Very strict about cell phones and other electronics in his in-person lectures. If you go to lecture (or stream) and take decent notes, its an easy A.

Professor Jhally's online courses have taught me a lot more than most of my classes at UMass. He is really passionate about the course content and uses many readings, short videos and movies to teach us. There are about 2/3 quizzes online every week but they are very easy and the exams are also easy if you watch all the lectures.

Best professor I have ever had. He is the most intelligent man I know. His lectures have truly opened my eyes and changed my outlook on the world. I will be taking my fourth class with him in the fall because I learn more in his class than any other. Highly recommend.

Sut is so intelligent and very interesting to listen to. He cares about the material and you can tell he is extremely educated. He has changed my entire perspective about how our media, economic, and political system works. Truly inspirational and he really makes you think.

Sut Jhally is honestly the best professor I've ever had. I am about to take my third class with this man. He is super passionate about what he teaches and has really changed the way many students look at the world. I have never met such a brilliant man before him. I would 100% recommend his class. Greatest professor I ever had with no competition. A true genius. His classes are eye opening and life changing. I actually took the class ten years ago and am writing this now because I ran into him on the street a few days ago and was star struck. A one of a kind. You should feel honored to have an opportunity to hear this man speak.

A class 100% worth it if you can finesse lectures with a group of people, and create a study guide together. No in class lectures, all online. Quizzes online from online readings and movies. If you need the credits, take this class. Exams are verbatim what he says in lecture, easy material to learn.

Comment:

Jhally is a great professor. All the information is so interesting and really changes your views on so many different topics. This is a great class that I think ever comm major should take, or anyone interested in social issues. The class is made up of online lectures, many movies, readings, videos, and many quizs, and 3 tests. But it is very fun.

Sut is incredibly knowledgeable about the course materials, and you can tell that he really is passionate about the topic. That being said, he loves to flaunt his own work and almost every movie that you watch for course he was the producer of it. If you come to class with an open mind, you can really learn a lot. My favorite course at UMass.

Sut is a very well respected professor on campus, but honestly I was underwhelmed. He is clearly a brilliant man but I found his class pretty difficult. If you're taking it online, you have to be self motivated! His tests this semester were really hard to understand and I felt like could've been much clearer. Such a test heavy class, not a fan.

Sut Jhally is a remarkable man. He completely changed the course of what I want to study and helped me gain a sober outlook. His lectures are incredibly powerful and engaging, I was not bored for a minute. He is controversial in his nature, but everything he says is backed up with plenty of research - he dedicated his entire life to these studies.

Sut Jhally is the greatest professor that UMass has. He is an excellent professor and is extremely engaging. The material for 287 really opens your eyes and gives you a new perspective. Absolutely take a class with Sut Jhally if you can. The tests are fair and if you study, you should get an A. I loved this class so much I want to take all of his.
