I had to change my major from computer science because of his super tough class. Definetely won't recommend taking his class unless you have background in programming, because in Intro to Programming class, he teaches JApplet in his first class and not the basics and rules of JAVA. Totally won't recommend.

If you're good at programming, you'll be fine. His lectures are really long (I doze off), but at least he does explain everything you need to know. He curves his tests AND gives extra credit on programming assignments. Dr. Comer is actually really considerate, and will help you if you at least make an effort to participate in class.

Hey to be completely honest this class ( intro to programming) was hard as heck and I had 0 experience with programming, but the only reason I pulled it off was because I stayed in his office and speaking to him about what was expected for labs. Oh and if you do good on all labs it really helps. But he is a great guy and very helpful if you ask.

If you've had prior programming experience, this class is a breeze. If not, Dr. Comer walks you through almost all the programming problems you'll encounter. He is one of the sweetest professors I've had, and always tries to be helpful. Computer science is supposed to be hard, but Dr. Comer will do everything in his power to help you understand it.

Kind of hard to listen to his lectures but he's very helpful. If you don't understand anything, ask him. Test open book but mostly in his lectures so try to show up at class. Give great curve so tests are hard. He can even extend the lab's due date. Good professor.

I waslooking forward to the challenge of learning how to program before this class but since I was brand new to it Mr. Comer didn't really give me much assistance. Everytime I came to see him during his office hours he would give me a little help but not much. I see Mr. Sanchez in the lab helping students often but the class is really tough period

His first two tests are pretty easy but the final is difficult. However, Dr. Comer gives great curves so that's a plus. The lecture is clear and understandable. The lab is totally doable if you go to class regularly and follow his instruction. I totally recommend this class.

I went to class, spent time in the computer lab, went and asked questions to him, asked questions to the lab help NONE OF IT HELPED. He is too old to teach, he doesn't use the textbook and after the first test they are impossible. The course shouldn't be this difficult find another teacher

Make no mistake, Dr. Comer makes some of the hardest tests you will ever take. You can consider a 50 a good score on any of his tests. However, Dr. Comer is helpful outside of class. If that fails, as upper class students for help. Dedicate lots of time to any of his classes. It's tough, but doable. If you understand it, read the books.

Get a tutor! This class requires 15 hours a week AT LEAST out side of class. Dr. Comer is very nice, friendly and willing to help. Difficult to get a 'B'. Good luck!

This class sucks. Very time consuming and Comer obviously has favorites and the first 5 labs are not that hard and then it gets very difficult. You must spend tons of time figuring out how to do labs. He purposefully tries to trick you on the exams. Math majors are required to take this class so you just muscle through it and hope for an A.

I was a COSC grad at TCU and Dr. Comer is one of the best. He is always willing to help and cares about his students. I very much enjoyed his classes and would totally recommend him. The intro classes at TCU are tough regardless of which professor is teaching - I don't believe he should be rated worse because of that fact. CS is hard, period.

He does a very good job with the Intro to Programming class. He knows how to make things simple for people that don't get it. During the two weeks he was gone due to sickness, we had Dr. Sanchez as a substitute, and it was miserable. I got lost almost immediately. He's way better than Sanchez.

There really isn't a good pick of teachers in this dept. He's nice in his own right but doesn't explain things clearly and if you haven't taken programming in highschool this is going to be very difficult. The only people in class doing well are those with exp.

I majored in Comp Sci at TCU and had Dr. Comer for multiple classes - can say for a certainty he is an excellent professor - if you actually want to learn the material take his courses. For those complaining about intro to programming - don't take that course unless you mean to major in comp sci - it is not supposed to be easy.

hardest class i have ever taken. the first day he tells you that you will fail the class. if you plan to spend 10+ hours on writing one program and then studying for your other classes then take this but this class took up so much of my time it was ridiculous. i now see why the computer science school is so small

he does not warn you. he tells you that you need no background in programming, but you need to hve taken it in high school to do well. he sucks at teaching. he doesnt make the labs or tests, so he never teaches what you need to know. hes awful and so boring. take PAYNE or get OUT.

He warns you in the first class this will be the toughest course and it's true, but if you go to him, and show that you are trying and that you kind of know what you are doing, he is really really helpful! The test are very difficult and are worth more than the labs, so study, study. He is my favorite teacher because he does truly care!
