I am a CDO major and am so happy I took this class before my required phonetics classes. It turned out to be my saving grace. Jim Eikrem doesn't favor theater students; those statements are simply false. If you show up to class, participate, and do your assignments, you'll be fine. His teaching style is super organized and very clear.

i took this class because I'm a language arts/elementart ed major, not a theatre major. I found this class so interesting and fun. I'm usually uncomfortable in theatre classes, but I wasn't in this class. Jim can be a tough grader but if you do your work and put time into it and practice, you will be totally fine!

Horrible professor!!! Favors students who are theater majors and is just an ass. He does help students in his office hours but that is the only good thing to say about him. Attendance will screw your grade at the end if your not careful with it. Just do not take this class!! Youve been warned

Terrible teacher. All he does is belittle you in class & makes you feel stupid. Warmups that are done are VERY embarrassing, & he doesn't like you unless you are a Theater Major. Office hours are terrible & he doesn't answer any questions unless you schedule an appointment. He is very cocky, errogant & very RUDE. DO NOT take him!!!!!!

He is for sure the best prof to take voice and diction with. The class is very difficult and he can be really strict but if you ask him for help he will work with you until you get it. I would advise not taking him for any other class though

All around HORRIBLE teacher. He does nothing but make you feel stupid, and be littles you every chance he has. He does NOT like you unless you are a drama major. His lectures make you want to fall asleep, very pointless class. DO NOT TAKE HIM!

Very arrogant and cocky. You will succeed if you go to his office hours and he gives you feedback before your performances though. I was excited for this class, but he took all the fun out of it :( Very awkward exercises done in class. I think he means well though.

His class is pretty simple, but he takes the fun out of acting. he makes us do POINTLESS exercises at the beginning of class, and he only hear out certain students. He's cocky, arrogant, and thinks he knows EVERYTHING. you ask him a question and he always answer with an attitude. it's a drag going to this class, he has the worst attitude!

Honestly, he is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. He only likes you if your a actor and he assigns work like everyone is good at memorizing and doesn't realize some people are not. I have left his class in tears out of frustration and boredum. He is not supportive or helpful in any way.

I have had him for three different classes. People say he is arrogant, but he isn't, he just knows what needs to be done and is good at pushing his students there. I didn't get an AWESOME grade, but I slacked off sometimes. He expects a lot, but it's worth it to take his class because of how much you learn. He is my favorite professor. Period.

This class is useless because he teaches everybody to speak like they are not from Michigan. He makes you do "relaxation" exercises that are irritating and pointless. He tells you to buy a cassette tape but it was a waste of money for me seeing how I don't own a cassette player and the tape is not graded.

Not really good at making the subject interesting, although you can tell it's his life. Critical, but not helpful. You have to teach yourself and he has strong opinions that aren't really congruent with what other education professors agree upon. It was hard to take this class seriously.

I heard that Jim was a hard professor who isn't nice, but that isn't the case. I am a freshman in the 302 class and I didn't find it difficult at all. However, some other people thought the IPA was hard, but he seemed to help. I really enjoyed this class, and the professor.

Professor Eikrem is a fun guy, yet doesn't accept laziness or poor sttitude. Unlike some of the other reviews I haven't found him to be arrogant, he just knows what he wants to see, and presses my class to go the extra mile to demonstrate our capabilities. I love this class and suggest anyone take it, theatre major or not.

His classes are really easy as long as you follow the directions. He's a hard grader on the first major paper - take advantage of the extra-credit. I don't really like him as a person, I think he's really annoying, but as a professor he's okay. Not very helpful and his response emails are useless. Talk to him in person.
