Dr. Fergusson is an expert in his field, and uses a socratic way of teaching which allows students to really understand the material, rather than regurgitating it. He is interested in high-quality discussion of topics assigned, and acts as a moderator so as to get students to actively discuss and bounce ideas off of each other. Great prof.

He's very funny and the classes were very entertaining. The final exam is easy, but you need to write a lot of papers in this course. Either 6x5page papers or 2x15p papers or 1x30p paper, which is quite a lot for a 3rd year intro course. I would still recommend it though, you will learn some interesting stuff.

Socratic method of teaching, which can seem annoying but if you participate it gets the material into your brain in a more interesting way than lectures. Classic Realist, clearly grew up in the nuclear weapons age. Too old to care so he just has fun. A wealth of knowledge, generous with extensions, approachable.

Friendly and energetic, but is busy and misses a lot of lectures. Presentations were *usually* ok, very right-wing (which goes over like a lead balloon in a U of M arts class). TA was very helpful. Notetaking is easy. Very clear about papers and exams.

Congratulations if you are lucky enough to get this prof in first year. He is really awesome, knows his stuff, and is passionate about what he talks about. Be prepared for a military weapon spin on a few lessons, but overall he is a great prof. There were four papers, and a super easy exam where you simply had to define 50 terms. Piece of cake!

He's a decent prof, but definitely cannot hold your attention at 8:30 in the morning. He likes to ask questions that nobody can answer, which leaves the class sitting in silence for a few minutes while he waits for an answer. Labs are good, papers are OK (depending on your TA).
