I am SO thankful they offered figure skating as a ULLC, and overall this was a good class; his tests were so hard. he claims you never have to know dates but then gives you questions where you obviously have to know the date to answer; know the skaters he talks about in class like the protopopovs etc. still the best ULLC class we went ice skating!

I absolutely love Dr. Hines. He's a great teacher. You won't do well in the class if you can't take good notes, and the tests can be a little meticulous, but you will learn SO MUCH! Critical listening was very enjoyable, and I can't wait to take music history! =)

For those who just want to pass the class and dump all information after tests this isn't a class or teacher you will enjoy. Dr. Hines LOVES his job and it is very easy to see this. He is a wonderful teacher...if you want to learn. Pay attention in class and study and you will do fine. Acting like you can at least tolerate the class helps too.

Very hard tests, who knows where he gets his questions. there will always be 20% of the test that he wont ever tell you or hint at ever... but you can do just fine if you pay attention and take notes, also reading the book helps, but he adds a lot to the book. He is always always happy to help you understand something if you legitament questions.

If you can pay attention and study for class then Dr. Hines is GREAT. He LOVES what he teaches so his passion makes the class interesting. If you pay attention and take lots of notes the classes aren't difficult. And he's so cute when he gets into his lecture! ALWAYS willing to help outside of class too!

If you thought notbook checks were for high schoolers then dont take this class. Dr. Hines doesn's believe that you can get a good grade unless your notebook is a transcript of what he says each day, no matter how well you do on his tests. I'm sorry for anyone that is required to take Critical Listening. Have fun.

Professor Hines is a really nice man and well informed on his topic but you have to pay really close attention to the lessons. If you get bored easily don't take his class!If you stay on top of your work the weekly card quizzes aren't hard, the weekly listening is a pain but keep up and it's easy.

Worst class I've ever taken. It's not WORLD music, it's history of western eurpoean music and his experience in guayana (?). He rambles and is very boring. The daily quizzes and weekly hour of listening are annoying and the exam will kick your butt. Avoid him at all costs.
