He's a fine man. BUT, he doesn't take extra credit, he makes you write in class essays but won't grade them and won't upload the ppts. He treats international students like exotic creatures and makes comments on accents. Once, he brought his teddy bear to class (?). But overall easy class as long as you don't skip and take good notes.

Janson is a pretty easy professor as long as you PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT HE SAYS. I learned the hard way that if you don't take thorough notes on the things he says about each piece and artist, the tests are going to screw you over. Study for the essays beforehand and really go over your notes and you'll do just fine.

Janson is a good professor. Overall the class is engaging. The only issue I have is that the field trip papers (2) and Midterm Conference are mandatory and won't count to your grade at all. The tests aren't super difficult but the method he uses for them goes by suuuuuper slow. It was a good class, I learned a lot, and I'd take him again.

you're only graded on tests and an essay so if you have poor memorization skills or are bad at essays good luck. Also field trips and midterm conferences are MANDATORY, and hes smug about it. If you read this, Janson I don't like you, also use blackboard more and stop asking your students why you don't have a pepper you're an old man, gross.

Professor Janson is the best!!! Every test is multiple choice and no slide IDs have to be memorized. The lectures are actually not bad because he engages you a lot and he doesn't try to cover thousands of pieces in one class. He is super sweet and caring and funny. Take him !!!!!!!!!!

Professor Janson is one of the most remarkable people I've ever met in my life. He is so wise and knowledgeable. His lectures are super engaging as well. Many complain he's out to convert you to Catholicism with this class, but he's not! You have to talk about Catholics if you're talking about the Renaissance!

Janson was a joy to listen to. If you go to class and take notes you don't need to buy the textbook! The tests are all multiple choice and he really emphasizes the important things that you'll need to know. No dates and titles, mainly concepts. He was sweet and caring and made everyone laugh with his little jokes.

JJ is one of the most considerate professors at SCAD. He is always available for help both in the classroom and for years after your class with him. A real gem, through and through. Would recommend to anyone who wants to have a good relationship with their professor, and take a class with a bunch of hilarious anecdotes.

I learned more about Catholic faith than I did about Italian Renaissance Art. I was misgendered every day in class and felt totally disregarted. On top of that, he is not a good grader. His comments on my and my friend's papers were the same things with a few words swapped. He graded us down on things he didn't even ask for.

This is the second class I've taken with Janson. He's really good about getting to know all of his students and has a very "dad" sense of humor, which I personally love. His lectures are interesting, but take up the whole class (so be well rested/caffeinated) and you'll be fine! He goes over what will be on the test, but they're still fairly tough.

This was my first art history course at SCAD, and i truly enjoyed it. As an 8am class, I had trouble staying awake at first because of the long lectures, but they were very interesting. Even though at midterms I had a 57% in the class, I was able to finish with a high B. His tests are fairly simple once I figured out how to study. He's a cool cat.

Janson is by far the best art history teacher I've ever had. He's very kind, lively, and excitable, and he obviously loves Renaissance art. I've used the knowledge I got from his class in my illustrations, which is a first. It's tough, I got a D on the first test but got As on all the others for overall A. Pay attention to him, he's great!

He is a fun Professor who tries his best to make his lectures interesting and will make you laugh. His tests are pretty challenging so be sure to study hard. Only one essay you have to type up for him and its just an artwork critique. Tests are multiple choice. He is pretty strict when it comes to class participation, so if your shy, get un-shy!

Engaging lectures and teaching style based more around overall knowledge of art history and it's waves/movements then on reciting names and dates for slides. I feel that this approach to art history is going to stay with me longer than classes that were just memorization.

Dr. Janson is the perfect art history professor: not too easy, not too hard. I took notes, listened during lectures, and only had to study minimally to get A's on the tests. No trick questions. His lectures were engaging and he cares about the success of each individual student. I would recommend him to anyone.
