Great guy, very interesting, and lives locally. If you seem like you care about the topic, the papers aren't graded too difficultly. Participate. A lot. If he knows your name that's a good sign, and you'll get a better grade. He's very knowledgeable of his subject, but his personal opinions tend to tint the way he presents the topics.

James Jones is a very helpful professor. Although some people thought his class was difficult, if you read his notes about the readings on his website you will find his essay exams easy. I would definitely take his class again. Also, participation plays a huge role in your grade so definitely make sure to do the readings and show up to class.

There will be 3 tests including the final, all of which are essay exams. He will give you two prompts, which you can pick one of. If you do well on the first two exams, you may be exempted from the final. I will admit it was a very dry class, and it can be rough to study for, but if you work for it, the class is not terribly challenging.

I'm not one to be interested in history and Jones made this feeling even stronger. He gives essay test and gives a review before the test, but doesn't narrow down the entire section to focus on for the exam. His slides used in class are full of text and impossible to write notes from the slide and listen to what he is lecturing about. Never again.

This was my least favorite class of the semester. He is extremely arrogant and his lectures are extremely boring. Although there is not a lot of work in the class, if you do poorly on the exams it will tank your grade.

He's a really nice guy and EXTREMELY smart. But he grades super hard and really doesn't think he could ever be wrong. If you're wrong he'll call it out most likely. Please read the book.

Very knowledgeable man. I took pages of notes, read every assignment, participated in class, even asked what I could do better when first grade was a B. Unless you are already a history wiz be prepared to work extremely hard for a B. Not the freiendliest, and you need to be in every class. Good luck guessing what he wants on one question exams.

Dr. Jones is a great professor. I would take his classes again in a heart beat. Dr. Jones tells great stories to get the point across. The only downfall is that there is reading due every class, luckily the readings are only a few pages the longest reading we had was 12 pages. Also all of the tests are essay based, but he gives you reviews. Takehim

Easily the worst professor I've come across. No matter how in depth you go on his exams, it's never good enough. This man's ego is so big that he can't handle a student ever being right. Another note, know the material? Ace tests? You'll still do horribly if you don't participate. This is college. Participation should not weigh so much into grades.

Dr. Jones is a good professor. He is funny and engaging, but if you don't put in the work, do the reading, and pay attention you won't do well. He is a bit of a tougher grader on his tests, which are one essay each (you get to chose from 2). Attendance wasn't mandatory, but participation matters.

Dr. Jones was one of the better teachers I have experienced to this point. His classes run from start to finish and are lecture style but rely on class discussion based off the readings. He DOES keep track of participation, however, 1-2 hand raises a class will keep you in good standing. 3 essay-exams. Go to class and read and you'll get easily a B

Dr. Jones was very informative and a very down to earth professor. Many people thought his tests were hard because they are just essays that you have a choice between two prompts to write about. But you have to do the readings, come to his lectures, and pay attention and the tests really aren't that hard. He loves to knowthink his students care.

Jim Jones is not an easy professor (he is a tough grader and tests are all 1 essay each) but his lectures and the material covered is interesting. He's open to class discussion and usually gets through his lectures 5-10 minutes before class ends. He will help you if you ask for it. Do the reading especially if you aren't going to class.

DON'T DO IT! I passed but came dangerously close to failing. There is no way to get credit for HW - you just have to read pages & pages of boring material you won't understand and then try to talk about it in class but he'll always say you're wrong. Only 3 tests all essay style, impossible to get even Bs on. Takes attendance policy very seriously.

Classes are lecture-style. 3 essay tests that cover all of the material. You'll need the text book because daily reading is required to know what's going on during lectures. Taking lots of notes straight from the power points is essential. Easy class if you pay attention.

I was initially very excited for the course, but from the first day I felt unwelcome as a non-history major. He's interesting, but condescending and extremely hard to talk to. Take him at your own risk, though I wouldn't recommend it.

Dr. Jones is a wise man with a lot to offer anyone willing to listen through some fun and some boring lectures. He has some funny dad jokes. He requires little reading, a lot of participation, low textbook use, but good writing skills because he grades pretty tough (which he should in a 300 level history course.) I would take him again if I could.

He's kind of intimidating at first, but by the end, I realized he was very cool and I thought he was rather helpful. The textbook is not expensive at all (compared to others) and we used it everyday, so make sure to buy it! 3 exams: all essays. Take notes and you'll do decent, I promise.

Dr. Jones is a very smart guy. Though he can speak quickly and move fast, the topics he covers are topics that should have been read previously. He uses real world analogies to help understand the material, which helps a lot. His tests are blue book only and can be challenging. I would recommend.
