Comment:
He likes old Irish poetry so don't take this class if you don't share this enthusiasm. Reading isn't really necessary because you read the poems out loud in class and dissect them in groups. If you do the papers exactly how the prompt says to, you'll get an A. Very boring and doesn't get you excited about poetry. Just does a lot of rambling.

Murphy's classes are monotonous, and in my opinion, he could do a better job at prompting meaningful discussion. While some of the material we read was interesting, there are plenty of other professors at DePaul that will give you a better education. He is intelligent, but his teaching skills are lacking. If you want to learn, take someone else.

Kind of boring at times, since it's mostly just lecturing, but not too hard either. If you listen to what is obviously important and write papers with that in mind it's not bad.

I concur, I also had him and this smelly know-nothing gets way too much praise. The guy plays favs is what it really comes down to and while I've met teachers who were worse graders, his bias is still a hindrance to actually getting anything out of his class. Is a B really worht being made to feel like a worthless ****? i think not

Honestly I'm not seeing where the psoitivity is coming from for this guy. He strikes me as a mean-spirited twit with a victim-complex. His class is the next best thing to rubbing salt in your eyes and not to be slanderous but the guy's personal hygiene is deplorable and is a genuine distraction if you sit in the first couple of rows. Avoid.

Prof. Murphy is a good teacher that will help with your critical reading skills. Keep up with the readings, be specific in your papers, and there shouldn't be a problem- he's pretty easygoing.

Had him for Contemporary Irish Lit in the MAE program. Every class period was the same-- a presentation, then small group discussion, then reports from the small groups. Other than lack of variety, the class was great, every reading on the syllabus was really enjoyable, and he's got a very respectful teaching style (and a great sense of humor).

I wasn't particularly impressed with his class. I felt like there was no motivation for anyone to work hard. He's pretty easy and he's hilarious. He's incredibly nice and understanding. The class consists of a midterm paper, a presentation (biography of a writer), and a take-home final worth 60%. Be sure to show up for class!

This dude is real as hell. Show up, stay the whole period, and make some comments. He loves anything anyone says. All you do is watch movies and go over five plays, don't even have to read them. One of the best classes ever, dude could not be more cool.

Boring! Too many novels and not enough explaination. I was not impressed. He google searches for pictures during class constantly. Makes a potentially interesting topic repulsive. Very nice guy, entertaining, and pretty easy. But he is not interested in teaching, and his books (which you are required to buy) comprise most of what he knows.

Such a doll! He is so sweet and understanding. The material was pretty dense and I felt like I didn't absorb any of it but the time spent in that class was worth all his cute cute little jokes and mannorisms. A lot of un-enforced reading, weekly response papers, two 8 page papers. He's pretty easy grader so don't fret! Cutest man EVER!

It's simple, If you really have a passion for Shakespeare, do not take him because you will be bored senseless, however if you want to get an easy A for an arts & lit credit, this is hands down the best class to take. All you do is watch movie versions of every play you read.

He is a really nice guy who likes to teach british literature. He seems to know the material well and is a fair grader. Half the class is watching movies and reading the paperback book. The class is pretty cool and interesting. I ended up getting a B+. It is worth taking the class.
