Comment:
Ruebsamen is a good guy, but his teaching style does not lend well to this class. The quizzes and tests are all true/false, but the majority of the questions are obscure or trick questions. The writing assignments were okay, except that they were not returned until the last week of class, so nobody knew what he expected until it was too late.

Professor Ruebsamen is a great guy who will teach you many things about journalism. His classes may sometimes be boring but you'll always walk away with something new. The work isnt very hard at all either. Has great stories as well

i couldn't get over the fact that we had to memorize the associated press stylebook dictionary AND we got tested on it. it was nauseatingly tedious and although i see the point in it, it didn't seem like it should've been that big of a deal.

He's a nice guy. And I have always been interested in journalism..but honestly, I rather sit through a 5 hour math class. And I hate math.

Dissapointment. The assignments in this course are vulgarly pointless and nausiatingly devoid of educational value. Do not take this class unless you absolutely have to. ;)

Jim is cool but often missunderstood. He grades critically,so much so that if you consider yourself a writer he may damage your ego. Take the corrections he makes, disscuss them together, and undestand he does everything w/ a reason. He tends to digress during lectures, but if you read what he assigns, listen and take a few notes, you'll be alright.

Mr. Ruesbsamen is a great teacher, he is a little old-fashioned sometimes but by a large a good guy. He inspired me to pursue journalism and really helped me when I was an editor for the paper. He's also a great photojournalist.

Professor Ruebsamen is the perfect teacher for a beginning student in Journalism. He's very professional and he treats his students the way they would be treated in a journalism based workplace. So to a slacker student I guess that would make him a "mean teacher" but that's life... deal with it.

Interesting fellow, this Ruebsamen. He is way beyond the CC level and perhaps feels frustrated. I found him thoughtful and appreciative of students who worked hard. If I thought that Journ had integrity, I might persue a career in it. JR has integrity--he teaches.

If you want to be a Photojournalist, this class is for you. Jim is an Expert at Photo Journalsim. You can take his class and learn nothing, or you can broaden your skills by just talking to him outside of class. Tough, but well worth it.

Jim is pretty accessible & can give good advice if you ask for it. However, he seems to have a pessimistic attitude about nearly everything. He's demanding & doesn't express appreciation towards his students. That's why I left the paper.

he knows a lot, but very hard to break into. he won't help you at all unless you get on his good side, and I could not figure out how to do that for the life of me. I ultimately failed his class because of it.

Working for the paper is fun but it's also brutal - a huge time commitment. It's more like a job than a class, in that you work as a team and get to know everyone. Jim's hard to figure out but he can be fun.
