Sucec is very knowledgeable and articulate, but is a little quiet in lecture. He is a hard grader, but HARD WORK pays off in this course. I got a 48 on the first test, but worked really hard through the rest of the course and came out with an A. If you are interested in the material and are willing to work hard, take this course with SUCEC.

James Susec, is a very smart man. Unfortunately he cannot convey information to his students in an effective manner. His writing is hard to read, and his tests are 3 questions long, so if you miss ANY part of some obscure question, you will lose 40 points (40+30+30)=100 out of the possible 100. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR!

VERY hard tests. Takes off a lot of points for small mistakes. Other than that he's really a great guy and professor. Difficult to read his writing but you get used to it pretty quickly. Knows this stuff inside and out and if you go to class so will you. Every now and then he cracks a joke and it is just hilarious. I really like this guy.

Just stumbled across this site... I took Jim Sucec's Conduction Heat Transfer course in 1979 - after 30 years in geophysics it's still the toughest and best course I've ever seen.

Hard class, but he is very methodical and knows pretty much everything. He's a nice guy and truely deserves to be known as The Incredible Sucec. If you pass this class you WILL know the material, I can still help students struggling in that class years after the fact.

Extremely intelligent, gives very hard tests, grades them very tough. If you can pay intense attention to what he's saying in class, you will probably be able to understand, but I think most people will have trouble learning from him without a lot of dedication. Grades by 3 exams and a final. You have to know the material like an expert to do well.
