Comment:

Dr Farnsworth's is great at explaining the works and assignments covered in the course and her lectures are effective in making you understand complex texts. She engages the class while simultaneously enlightening us. She is a hard marker; you've got to work for every point.

I have taken 4 classes of Janes after other students & this site said otherwise, and I think I would have regret not taking her class. Jane is lovely, her classes are enjoyable if you love the subject, and she marks fairly and communicates with you on where you can improve. She is one of my favourite professors and she truly cares for her students

Comment:

Very nice lady, however she is a tough grader and her lectures are rough to sit through. It's a first year course which I took as a third year with previous english experience and I still struggled because her marking was so tough. She passes out assignments every other day for homework so I'd recommended going to lectures for that reason.

Jane is a wonderful lady when you talk to her but she's absolutely teaching the wrong stuff. I mean, intro courses? She marks like you're an English major when the majority of her classes consist of first or second year students that picked the course because it sounded easy or they were interested in the topic. A very inappropriate marker overall.

Although some may tell you otherwise Jane Farnsworth is a very good professor for any serious student taking English. She has high expectations for your writing and makes you work for your marks but that should be expected in a university setting. She is very helpful outside class and has a true passion for English.

Definition of a hard marker. This class was not treated as a first year level course. I went into this course expecting a mark in the 70s and receiving marks in the 80s, and I failed. I would highly recommend taking an English course from another professor if high grades are important to you.

Very hard marker. For an introductory course, this was brutal. Discourages questions. I used to get 90's in English and ended up with a 60 for her class. Research papers are hell. However, she can be funny at times which keeps you awake momentarily.

Absolutely brutal teacher. Although I didn't have much choice but to take this course,I highly suggest taking someone/something else.For a 1000 Level English course she marks as if we're 4th year English Majors.. many people dropped out of my class.Awful to listen to and expects WAY too much,However, she does know her stuff and is a very smart lady

Many of the other students in my class found her teaching style to be dry. However, I really enjoyed her class and found once you get past her tone, you can tell she really cares about the subject matter and has cool things to say about it. I'd recommend her to any serious students who like english and care about learning.

As others have stated, incredibly difficult marker; she expects, at the very least, university graduate quality papers from first year students. Every thing I've handed in to her I've felt confident in, and my highest mark in her class in the end was a 75. When I approached her for help, her advice was to "raise my game".

She is a very hard marker. You may think you did great on a paper but failed horribly. The class consists of her at the front of the class lecturing. She will laugh if you get a question wrong and will make you answer questions and asks. If you are registered for her class, please, do yourself a favor and drop it. Shes terrible.

A very hard marker. She expects first years to write as though they have their PhD's. She is very intelligent, but also VERY boring. You can't help but daydream in her class, and watching paint dry is more fun than listening to her. However, she's nice and friendly and willing to help out. But I wouldn't recommend her. Find another professor.
