Satterfield is a tough grader on first drafts but allows for improvement on second revisions. She is always available to give feedback, definitely seek her help and you will do fine in class. Participation is important.

Comment:
Satterfield is ditsy and confusing. She constantly changes her mind on what is acceptable and what is not in terms of your work. Offers unhelpful criticism. If you aren't a good writer, you will not get an A in her class. Does not teach you to become a better writer. And she will not learn your name.

Dr. Satterfield is definitely one of the harder graders i have encountered at Loyola thus far. You basically shoot for a B+ as an A is rarely given out. Learned a lot about writing through workshops and editing. Participation matters. She'll basically look at your essay and tell you everything you need to revise. This is helpful but also annoying.

Comment:
I would never take a class with Professor Satterfield again. She barely puts any grades in, and when she does she is an unnecessarily hard grader and assigns assignments for grade that have nothing to do with your own writing. Im pretty sure she made up the genre of writing she was teaching us too.

I was dissapointed at first because I thought the course would be like high school (easy) and writings not my major. But I ended up learning a lot thru revisions and LOTS of workshopreading. Take her but expect to work! PS you have to participate.

She only will accept her way of writing, which doesn't allow for much creativity to distinguish yourself as a writer. A tough grader, but lets you do revisions to bring up your grade. She is usually nice but can snap about random things. Her workshops are helpful and even though it wasn't the most enjoyableeasiest class, she did teach me something

A little quirky, but still a decent teacher. A rather harsh grader, but if you show interest and attempts to fix your work, she grades off of improvement. Oh, make sure your portolio is complete OR ELSE

The class itself is interesting and a lot of fun, especially if you have interesting people to work with. She's a very difficult grader and fairly closed minded, but lots of drafts of work will convince her to give you a good grade, just be ready to really work for it.

She loves participation and is strict about it. Due dates are difficult to understand, and whenever she asks you a question she just refers you to the syllabus, which tells you NOTHING. Her commentary about your writing is always pretty useless and redundent, and she always tries to change the plot and characters to what she would write. AVOID!!

Easy class. Satterfield makes no sense. She's spacey, but you really don't need to understand what's going on to do well.

The first day of class she seemed great, is nice/perky at first, but as the class went on she became worse and worse. Tough grader initially on papers, but if you do re-writes your grade wont be too bad. Always always always thinks she is right. Very tough to get an A, but a manageable B if youre willing to work for it.

Pulled my hair out all semester doing a TON of work and revisions, and constant readings and preparations for class. I was paranoid this class would destroy my GPA, but Jane's amazingly helpful nd really takes note of how much effort you put in. Overall I definitely recommend her if you are REALLY interested in enhancing your writing skills.

She is very flighty and refuses to tell u when things are due, "refer to the syllabus" is her favorite phrase. She is extremely partial towards females, because I am I recieved an A, while males who clearly had better papers recieved B's. Workshop is helpful and in the end she's not too hard.

She really likes people to participate. Be one of the first to speak up. She wants you to "take risks" while writing but generally she doesn't like the risks you take. Difficult to tell whether she likes you or not. Ok class.
