Comment:
Unclear about projects (to the point of conflicting directions on major assignments, a movie report is supposed to "compare the two films" yet another 'rubric': it's hardly a rubric it's only one or two sentences, talks about simply "discussing what the (suggesting one of the two movies) ilustrates". Doesn't care to specify until it's too late.

She talks a lot. Consistently let us out late. Doesn't specify what she wants in papers. Waited till the last minute to tell us the format and content of the final. I was interested in the content of the course, but I lost interest because of her teaching. Lectures were repetitive and slow. Lots of reading but not much from textbook.

Keep your mouth shut if you don't want to be embarrassed because of your answer, good or bad, right or wrong. She is very condescending. Also, she is hard to understand because of her lack of vocabulary and description. Tests cover ALOT of information so really study. She is too in love with Japan, she should just move there and stop teaching it.

Nothing you say will ever be right. She's looking for the exact answer and you're a little bit off or looking at the topic at hand in a different light, you're 100% wrong. Avoid this prof if possible.

awful teacher, notes are useless, projects are all irrelevant and boring, never gave you time to even meet with a group after assigning a group project. All of her tests are mostly on material that she does not bother to give to you in class. And she will often start parts of her lessons with you don't need to know this but.. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS

Very boring, Technologically incompetent. She uses powerpoints and doesn't post them online. Her notes that she does have on her very old webpage are different from her powerpoints. She also doesn't give you time to take down the missing notes from the slides. I would not recommend taking this class at all.

Condescending, confusing, and an ineffective teacher. Finds something wrong with every single thing the students say, and conveys so in the most passive-aggressive way possible. Technologically incompetent, unclear on just about everything, and found it better to assign group projects in 3 groups of 15 students instead of 15 groups of 3. Avoid.

Class is very overwhelming at first, she throws a lot at you. Almost dropped it after the first day. Glad I didn't. This class was one of my best college experiences, and I learned a lot from it. She is a very smart woman and is very passionate. Don't take this class if you just want to watch some anime and wear naruto headbands though.

Doesn't make clear what she wants. Constant papers with no real direction on what she's looking for. Book Report/Final Project, long papers, again no direction. Clearly not up to date on Japanese culture. Very American in her approach, don't let what she says speak for Japan. Nice enough, but hard to deal with. Probably wouldn't recommend.

Yamazaki is a good teacher. Many students complain that this class is more about Japanese history, but let's face it-you cannot study a contemporary culture without looking at its roots. She is a forgiving grader on written questions/homework, as long as you are in the "ball park" you will get credit. Very rigid and set in her ways, however.

She hasn't taught this class in a while so she was a little loopy in terms of what she wanted. HOWEVER, if you speak to her she will help you. Although you may have to ask her 5 times. I just HAD to rate her because I HATE, HATE that she doesn't finish her sentence! She starts a sentence and adds a yatta yatta or just drops it altogether.

Shes a good prof!Remember when reading reviews that the students attitudes have as much2do with the rating as the actual reality of the profs teaching skills.A lot of my classmates in 09 spend the whole class trying to correct her or weasel better grades out of poorly done work.If this doesnt describe u, youll enjoy the class/prof&get above a 3.0

Mrs. Yamazaki is entusiastic about Japan, however she has a hard time talking about it in a way students can understand. Specifically, her sentence structure and word usage is not very good at all. Perhaps this is because she previously taught math?

She's not nearly as bad as people say. As long as you pay attention in class (and actually GO) and do the work, passing is easy. I found her to be very friendly and fun. Kind of a big dork, which is just my type.

Yamazaki is one-of-a-kind! Her lectures are boring, rambling, and confusing. It is next to impossible to study for the exams b/c there is so much material and the exams are not easy BUT she is generous with the grading and she gives you so many little (easy) papers and projects to supplement your grade. I would take her again.

First off, this prof is old-school, BIG TIME! She's unapproachable, inconsiderate, and begins class BEFORE the scheduled start time. She's American despite the Japanese last name, but be ware, she conducts class like a Nazi boot camp guard. Accused me of plagarisim a book report without due cause. The material is not hard, however. Take Nakao-Sensei instead.
