Intimidating class because anything could be testable material. Some discrepancies in actual lecture slides and textbook terms, but most lectures went hand in hand with the textbook. Heavily based on specific articles and studies, especially since she has taken part in many of them. I basically studied everything and anything, scraped by with a B.

I actually really enjoyed this class: the focus is REALLY heavy on specific studies, but by that same token, the amount of 'general knowledge' you have to memorize is less than a lot of other PSYC courses at UBC. Dr. Werker is passionate about research, and brings in lots guest speakers. Read all the slides -- even the ones she glosses over!

Clearly does not value actual teaching. No real learning objectives or marking criteria given (she actually makes it up after the assignments are handed in) Leaves little time to answer much needed questions that her vague rambling generates. Lied to students about being willing revisit her unfair grading regarding a mistake she made. Avoid.

I think some of the comments are warranted. She is nice and treats her students with respect, contrary to what some people below have said. However, her expectations are unclear and she often founders on her vaguely explained explanations. She also has unrealistic expectations at exam time: 4 essays and 5 short answers in an hour and a half?

I read these comments when I first signed up for the course and was rather concerned that I was going to have a hard time with her, but I had no other possible class to take in my schedule. I was very pleasantly surprised how wrong many of these comments were. She is a good professor giving clear explanations, has a wealth of knowledge, and is fair

WORST CLASS EVER!! do not take it !!! marks COMPLETELY unfair, i attended all classes and tutorials and got a f-ing 2 out of 10 for participation and her exams are atrocious, during one i came across a Q which the TA didn't even understand and waved the prof over, and the prof jus said "answer the best u can" and walked off!! HATE HER!!!!

Well-researched prof, knows her stuff. Absolutely adorable and soft-spoken. Fairly average in terms of assignments and exams in all Psyc classes. The discussion groups were fun and helpful, really added to the class.

Prof. Werker offers clear and fascinating classes in a huge lecture setting that usually bores my pants off. She is obviously passionate about child development, and her lecturing reflects that. The best upper level psyc prof I've had. She's interested in student input and shows great respect for class input. Great prof. Great class.

Dr. Werker is very nice, sweet and humorous. Clearly loves her subject and wants students to too. Arranged for some excellent guest speakers. Midterm was quite easy. Always appreciates feedback and questions. A very accomplished researcher and thus knows her subject well!

She was asking for volunteers to work in her lab, and my friend took her transcript to get an interview with Professor Werker. Unbeknowst to my friend, the professor commented on my friend's transcript in an unprofessional manner in front of other TAs by saying, "Well, at least your grades are consistent" and turned her down.

Janet clearly does not make good use of your time. You must read the textbook on your own time. She encourages discussion but does not guide them to reflect concepts from topics that you study. She is also not very friendly.

was she very nice? don't think so, she was rude to me and didn't admit her mistake. and use class time very poorly, always focus on useless disscussion and she didn't have to prepare anything for class, even exam questions and marks are given by us...
