I felt as if some classes were extremely pointless, but others were important to go to. Participation does matter in the class so be prepared to start talking. There was a midterm and a final, which were both in-class essays. Three papers throughout the semester. Professor Witt was knowledgeable and was respectful towards everyone's opinions.

Witt's straight-forward with what he wants. Class time is used to discuss what you read the night before and in the end you write essays based on the reading. GO TO OFFICE HOURS. He is very helpful and provides clearcut help. Class's full of dumb kids who don't read his ratings to avoid his class so don't expect good classmates to help you out.

I think there were about 5 papers in total, ranging from 3-5 pages all the way up to 15-17 pages all building off of one topic you choose in the beginning of the semester. Read two books on top of all the essays. takes FOREVER to reply to emails. Final was unexpected/not discussed. Makes you do group work (power point presentation for each book)

Comment:
Writing on the same thesis all semester and being told that the primary reason why your work is being marked down is because your topic is too broad, a topic that was approved word for word by Witt at the beginning of the semester is unacceptable. Witt might not be a bad person, but he expects more effort than he dedicates to his teaching.

Professor Witt is a great professor but he's a really tough grader. Sometimes he forgets you take more than one class. There is A LOT of writing in his class. The main 3 essays are long. You should be prepared to write a 19+ page paper for the final paper. He gives points for attendance and the Final is based on the reading.

I'm a crappy writer and got a C. Don't buy the whole packet from my little professor you only use like two of the books from the whole package. The books you have to read are interesting but I didn't learn anything from the class or become a better writer at all. As long as you somewhat try and attend class and participate you'll pass with a C.

Professor Witt has a good personality; he's funny, sarcastic, & passionate about the subjects he lectures about. However, he is a tough grader & expects too much for just a G.E class. There are 5 essays overall (3 out-of-class essays & 2 in-class). The prompts are interesting to write about but he makes us do unnecessary activities for it.

I really don't recommend you take this class with him. He has a cool personality but if you don't write what he expects (which is way too high for a 101 class) then you will end up with a C. Homework he leaves is pointless and I honestly didn't learn anything from it. In all honesty I came out a worst writer from that class.

Professor Witt is incredibly smart and open-minded, I'll give him that. But taking his class, was one my biggest misktakes throughout my college career. I picked a bad topic for my paper, and I suffered. So pick a good topic, or you'll be saying hello to a C at the end of the semester.

He is a really cool professor. You really need participate in order to get full points. The final is just an essay that you can prep for the night before. Essays are kind of long but it's an easy class overall.

Overall, great professor. On the first day of class he says that he will grade the papers hard. Values participation and attendance. Great guy with a fantastic sense of humor, you will never get bored. Be ready to spend a lot of time on your papers and it will pay off at the end.

One of the best teachers I have had at CSUF. It is not an easy class but definitely one worth taking. 5 essays, all on the same subject. 4 of those essays range from 3-10 pages while the last essay is just a compilation of them all. You must do all the readings but it is worth it because you can then have interesting discussions in class. Recommend!

FIVE ESSAYS. That's all he takes for your final grade. The last paper had to be at least 15 pages long.. Attendance and participation are very important, and the class is in a discussion form. I struggled a lot because I was never good at writing from the beginning...

VERY DIFFICULT GRADER. When he returned papers, his comments were vague and didn't really explain how to improve it. He was a interesting person but was too harsh on grading. Wouldn't recommend taking his class if you're schedule is already filled with more important classes

Stay far away!! He doesn't teach you how to write at all and he's one of the only teachers I know who has in class essays for his midterm and final. He expects too much for a freshman writing class, and grades way too harsh. He gives way too much pre-writing crap too; pointless and time consuming. I HIGHLY recommend you don't take his class.

Witt is a cool guy but as for being a teacher to mainly freshman... he's not good. If anything I got worse at writing essays in his class. His classes are basically lectures on his biased opinions of the readings and he doesn't clarify how to write a college essay at all. If you want to be let down and learn nothing, take his class.

Hardest class I have taken, however I do not regret taking Witt whatsoever. MUST do the readings, they are discussed every class session and are the topics of the three papers. He grades VERY hard. DO attend his office hours for him to review your papers before submitting them, I did so and passed with an A! He's a great man to converse with as well

I have mixed feelings about Mr. Witt. He likes to talk a lot but not much about the actual writting of a paper. We would talk about the prompts and the readings in the book but never went over the writting aspect of the essay. Conversations are fun and he is pretty laid back. Harsh grader... Grades are not what I would expect them to be... :/
